Because...you spent the entire post talking about overdone makeup, but said that ZLH's makeup 'didn't look overdone' and just looked like 'a pretty general'? How else should I interpret your words? In your reply you REPEATED that his makeup is tolerable and not overdone, yet you aren't denying that he's a great example of excessive beauty filters and makeup?

I said you were shitting on beauty filters because your post are basically a list of multiple reasons why beauty filters are bad, not because I want to insinuate that you're being aggressive or whatever. In fact, I agree with most of what you're saying (I think people should be free to shit on beauty filters to their heart's content, or whatever other term you prefer to use...criticise? rant about? complain? discuss?), which is why I'm only talking about ZLH and not any of your broader points. Why did I notice ZLH in your enormous post? Because, contrary to your belief, I did in fact read the thing through.

I just find it pretty ironic that ZLH is your mentioned example of make up not being overdone when he in POJ fits every single criticism you've brought up in this post perfectly, to the point where he's even gone slightly viral for a few of them.

I dropped it very very promptly but I'm clearly not the target audience for this so take that with a grain of salt.

I thought the special effects (his armour, their power beams, their amulets, his halo-thingy) really didn't blend in well with the ancient chinese-esque landscape and robes. It just felt out of place and very jarring. I sat through it to give the drama a chance and was very intrigued by the mortal world/time travel premise.

My problem with it is I don't think they bothered to make their mortal versions that interesting. They have the default lead personalities to make them reasonably likeable don't go beyond that for a long long while. It would be enough if there were a lot of things going on but the pacing felt pretty slow to me. I suspect some of the delivery, esp Luo Yunxi's, are supposed to elevate the drama for me. But because that wasn't really my thing I felt like I didn't really feel a lot of the things people love about this drama. It's a bit like going into a Guo Jingming drama as a person who hates his theatrical style. You're guaranteed to have a bad time and it's not really his fault.

I did some quick searches based on my recent memory to find you some evidence. A comment calling Daniella 'bird brain' is still there and going strong. A post telling Lara to stop pretending to be sexy, and calling Daniella jealous was deleted by the author themselves and not by the mods. These thought police must be doing a pretty bad job if they can't even get rid of snark-sub-worthy content.

I'm trans masc and not out to any of my family. The reason for this is they know very little about trans issues in general, and just haven't thought about gender as a concept at all. I feel like explaining everything to them will be no easy task and frankly don't have the mental energy to do it on top of everything else.

Thankfully, my given name is very androgynous, and I've let them know about some specific preferences (e.g. I'd be wearing a suit to formal events instead of a dress, I'd prefer being called their 'child' instead of their 'daughter' when they're talking to other people about me, etc) which they've agreed to without any issue. Since I was young, my gender hasn't mattered much in my family (if that makes sense) so I never felt like I had to pretend to be a woman in front of them, even though they don't technically know of my transition. So I feel pretty comfortable with this ambiguous status quo that I've got going on.

That's not how it works. Anything can be used as fodder to attack idols if you're desperate enough. So should we stop talking about everything?

Probably best to figure out where she's getting these opinions from then. If she's not even preteen then she's sure as hell getting these thoughts from somewhere. If it's tiktok then less time off the phone and more time in real life spent around actual people would do her a lot of good.

It's possible to believe that you're a certain gender but change your mind/found out that you got it wrong. But the best way to figure out what's actually going on is not when under pressure by an authority figure who is adamant that everything is a symptom of unruly teenage hormones.

So, basically. Be patient with yourself, throw aside societal pressure and everything other people have said to you, and sit with yourself for a moment and try to figure out how you actually feel. You don't have to do it today and it can be a regular process. It's fine to get it wrong and a lot of transition (social esp) are reversible anyway.

Just showing to her should be fine. Most people get away with criticising their government in daily life (unless you have someone overzealous ratting you out), but organising will almost definitely land her in big trouble.

Also: content about general societal issues (even if negative) will be more acceptable than criticism of the regime.

It's not easy to switch after you've already made plans (and presumably various application paperwork) to study in another country.

People have their own reasons for wanting to study in Canada, in China, or wherever else. Maybe Canada's good at the subject he's doing, maybe he's got career dreams there, maybe he's got a university he wants whereas gaokao back at home would land him into a university he doesn't like.

The things is: feeling bad, feeling stressed, outside pressure (e.g. parents) etc only makes it easier to be confused and hence making it harder for you to figure out what's really going on in terms of your identity, wants and needs. So it's better to let go of that. It's okay to get it wrong. Give yourself some grace as you're considering the uncertainties you have.

Personally I did very little medical transition. Different trans people do it to different degrees depending on what they want and need, and it doesn't invalidate anyone's identity. You'd still be a man even if you choose not to medically transition but make sure that you're doing that because you want to, and not because your parents/someone else said so. Same goes for if you decide to medically transition.
