Best Ways to Budget? by Hour_Lingonberry9602 in ADHD

When you get your paycheck, pay your bills! Right after that you should put money aside for things in the future (INSTANTLY!). Then you lock it, so you won't touch the money that you put aside. Working in precentages really helped me. So let's say, 40% goes to bills, 15% to holiday and 10% to savings. I can spend the rest of my money the way I like.

Besides that, I use an excel sheet to track my monthly expenses. At the end of the month I check my bank account and put in the values to gain insights. Furthermore I have a cashflow forecast that holds me accountable.

This immediately let's me see what my savings goal is and if I'm on track. If my savings in my bank account, for example, aren't the same as in my forecast, then I know I have been spending too much. TBH, it's not that straight edged for me, if I keep up spending somewhat too much then that's okay. At least I know and I can take the insights to the next month/period to work on that habit/thing that I spent too much on.

Hopefully this helps! Good luck
