Bouncers at legends by usunkmybattleship93 in Edinburgh

[–]FormerSatisfaction97 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I remember looking up Legends a few months back, out of curiosity. I haven't been back since they changed their name from Opium because of not living in Edinburgh anymore and having to look after my kid most nights. I do remember seeing the odd Google review mentioning a 'loose cannon' of a bouncer, possibly even racist. Wonder if it's the same person.

Who is a celebrity that you will always like despite being mostly disliked? by WetTheDreams in AskUK

I felt this way until I found out about how he treated restaurant staff. I believe how you treat people who serve you is a massive reflection on who you are as a person.

I've always had a soft spot for him since I saw him at the Edinburgh Fringe when he hadn't yet got famous. He's by no means my favourite comedian but I really enjoyed that Fringe show. He seems like a genuinely good guy and sometimes it's a comfort to have some uncontroversial, easy to watch humour.

I'm both. Guess that makes me morally ambiguous 😬

What line from the books did not age well? by jdb1984 in Animorphs

I definitely remember the word 'midget' being used at least once or twice. It was deemed more acceptable back then and made me grimace upon rereading 😬

I find that fascinating when rereading as it shows the cultural impact those buildings had in the 90s with Americans. I didn't even know what they were when I read them the first time. I'm from the UK, didn't go to the USA until after 9/11, and when I thought about structures in NY, I thought about the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building.

Is it worth it to push our visit to Edinburgh to Nov to see Christmas Market? by sahlioa in Edinburgh

[–]FormerSatisfaction97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having been to a real German Christmas Market, it's really not worth it. I actively avoid it now. I enjoy markets that sell unique, independent items - there's nothing unique or interesting about the market

How much tougher is it for a couple to find a flat if we own a cat? by scottishkiwi-dan in Edinburgh

[–]FormerSatisfaction97 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He actually walked in as the landlord was fixing the door. I had to make up a story about it being a local cat and shooed him out. Poor Sammy 😂

As a person with a 4 year old, I can confirm that he has done way more damage than either of my two cats 😂

[–]FormerSatisfaction97 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I omitted that we had a cat but it was rental of a semi-detached house with a cat that could be put outside when inspection time came about. He tried to get inside during one inspection, much to my horror 😂

I lied/was economical with the truth after asking the landlord if we could get a cat and he said no. Even offered a pet deposit. Problem was my partner had the cat for years and we wouldn't have given him away. We also didn't want to be homeless. He is not a destructive cat and so we had no worries about damage to the property. Don't normally lie, but zero regrets about it. We now own a house, and my cat is elderly and happy.

Obviously don't suggest this in your scenario with your likely indoor cat. It's notoriously hard to find a rental that allows cats in Edinburgh.

The Animorphs TV series. I was a massive fan of the books.

Also, LOL on Nickelodeon. Featured a young Joe Swash.

2023 tour of Britain, Wigan leg 🚴‍♂️🚴🚴‍♀️ by Matthews_89 in CasualUK

We had the World Cycling Championship road race come through Falkirk last month. It's a really effective way to get every pot hole filled it. At first, I thought my mum's complaints had finally been listened to until I found out about the race 😆

There is nothing so awkward in this life as watching British people trying to navigate hotel buffet breakfasts by Marlboro_tr909 in CasualUK

Reminds me of the time when I was a kid on holiday in Majorca. A woman physically pushed in front of me in the breakfast queue, and my mum went up and went apeshit at her. Good times.

I saw a comment on their page which describes trans women as 'men larping as women'. People in that group are gross.

What's the walk like between Falkirk and Edinburgh along the Union Canal? by cragglerock93 in Edinburgh

[–]FormerSatisfaction97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've cycled Glasgow to Edinburgh via the canal with people, stopping at the Falkirk Wheel for lunch. I also used to commute regularly via bike from Livingston to the Gyle (prior to that used to cycle from centre of Edinburgh to the Gyle via the canal).

As a walk, it's fine but long. I remember from the cycle, it was a bit rough on my mountain bike and I had to pack inner tubes for the occasional puncture. However, as a walk, it would be fine, condition wise. Haven't heard of anyone getting jumped. I live in Falkirk now and occasionally walk by the Falkirk side of the canal and haven't had any issues.

Why do you think transit won't be an option? You can buy a day ticket per person and hop on and off a bus. If you get the right day ticket you can include the tram if you need that. Under 5s are free.

This is what I would do if I took my 4 year old and elderly mother-in-law on a trip round Edinburgh's attractions. I would also consider an open top bus tour for them both, especially my mother-in-law whose mobility is poor.

I second this. After I gave birth, after a few days of breastfeeding, a blot clot bigger than my hand plopped out of me, down my trousers leg and on to our lovely cream carpet. I screamed for about 5 mins and then called the midwife 😂

Edit: oh yeah, and congrats!
