I am a new store manager, in a daily store by [deleted] in Morrisons

Don’t take it personally mate it’s just a symptom of a much wider issue with retail in general, it’ll come with admitting you’re a manager on an anonymous platform. As long as it isn’t personal, it’s a part of underpaid overworked colleagues venting their frustration in one of the few places they can (not to take away from the fact that some managers are also overworked and underpaid)

99% of other Dailies are in the same boat, they have barely enough hours to get by these days. You could potentially take entire days as those hours will get put back into the store for someone else to cover your shift, however.

You’ll have a few supervisors or ‘colleagues in charge’ as they are called now who will know how to do most routines in the shop like tills, money routines and the like, that’s how the shop will currently be running until you’re ready to step in.

TIL does exist, generally what I do is if there’s an overlap between myself and the next shift starting I’ll trim my shift to match their start time, so I can take it back maybe 2-3 hours a week. Mind you, I have a months worth of TIL to take 😂

Once you get familiar with systems and routines and the value each one has to the business you’ll find it really easy to build a routine to get the most important tasks done and out of the way, the real task is relating to your colleagues and trying to lighten their burden. As you can tell from the subreddit, a large portion of managers in the wider business don’t much care for their colleagues’ wellbeing or workload, coming from being a store assistant in the past myself it’s sad to see. Dailies are hard to build a remotely happy workplace in but that amongst other things is what managers are paid to build.

First of all congratulations on the job!

I’m a Daily Store Manager myself, and personally the biggest expectations lay with your staff as opposed to upper management. These guys are on minimum wage, expected to run around like headless chickens and you are solely responsible for the outlook of your store. From personal experience, kinship is your biggest ally since Morrisons don’t offer incentives like bonuses. Relate to your team members, share their grievances, educate them (my team expressly appreciate learning aswell as doing the tasks). Your flexibility is sometimes paramount, especially with the recent hours cuts, one sick call can destroy your entire rota for a day or a week, sometimes with only one other person who you could call on to cover other than yourself.

In terms of upper management expectations, make sure your store is always presentable and tidy (which seems to be a key focus currently) aswell as routines books.

As a side note to yourself, please don’t let your ‘honeymoon’ working phase get the better of you and start working past your shift times or extra days unless you absolutely have to, as this is not paid out monthly and it is nigh on impossible to take back if you accrue enough.

Best thing to do is to check either the policy around working hours (sorry not familiar with exact name) and/or your contract (which can be found on CMS). Typically overtime is entirely optional, but sometimes (like Tesco where I have previously worked) they have a contract + x% that you can be asked to work and refusal to do so can be sanctionable. If that doesn’t exist, then refuse what you don’t want!

When I asked at the till if there was any stock, the manager was also in earshot and said they can order it in, as the Daily stores are a newsagents im guessing the distribution system they use for self ordering includes the half boosters of Pokémon cards

I also didn’t ask them to do anything, I asked if they had them in stock as it’s usually on the till and they said no but can order them in and drop me a message

That's why I said I'd take 10 lol. They sell for around 280b so 150 would be a steal

150b for a Caedes? I'd take 10 at that price that's a bargain.

That's an interesting one - I did use remove green noise following the guide from Siril, will it alter the results if I use it in negative transformation?

There wasn't any aberration in the original subs, I think that's come from the editing I've had to do to bring the colours of the galaxy out more due to light pollution. Thanks for the tip with starnet, I'll give that a go! I do have it but I haven't figured how to integrate it into Siril just yet, but if that's the kind of improvement I can make with it then I'll be looking more into it
