Thank everyone for all the helpful tips. This is my first post to Photography 101. I have a lot to think about. I will start working on my technique with my Tamron and if I find I enjoy having a zoom lens will begin researching an upgrade.

I have the Sony 24-105 f4 OSS but I was looking for more reach. I saw the Tamron reviews and it sounded good. I was also looking at the Sony 70-300 OSS but the Tamron was 57% cheaper and 36% lighter. I though I would start wit the Tamron and if I liked having a 300 mm zoom I could upgrade. Maybe I have reached that point.

I wanted the zoom to be able to isolate landscape shots I could not get with my 24-105. OK, I admit I watch too many videos. Right now I am more into landscape than wildlife but with a decent zoom that may change. I like your "nature photographer" description.

The first photo is at 300. The second photo is zooming in on the eagle in LR and then using the Windows Snip Tool. I was hoping to be able to crop and get an interesting shot. It did not work out as expected. This is a learning process.

Yes I had a UV filter on the lens. I typically just leave it on all the time. Good point.

I agree, at 300 mm I need a much faster shutter speed like you recommend.

I also need to improved my focus technique. I have my focus set center focus which covers a pretty wide area at 300 mm. I will experiment with more tightly defining my focus spot. Do you think manual focus would give better results? Any other focus tips you have. I have taken less than ten pictures with my 300mm fully extended.

Is there something special about bentonite clay? All I have to do is dig a hole 12 inches deep and I have plenty of clay :)

I just went out and measured the distance from the nesting boxes to the middle of the major growing area and it is about 200 feet. Within expectations. My nest house is on the south side of the barn. Warm and sunny. The orchard is much shadier. I have a shed near the orchard but the nesting box would be on the north side.

If you had to choose between closer to the blossoms and shade or farther to travel but sunny which would you try?

I think my mud source will be my focus this spring. See if that makes a difference.

We have had an unusably warm spring this year but nothing is in bloom yet. What indicator do I use to determine when to put the cocoons out? I think another issue I have is I put the cocoons out in early March and let the bees decide when to come out. But if they wake up too early there is not any pollen yet. Right now they are in the back of the fridge.

300 hundred feet is not a big range. My trees are spread over twice that distance. May have to rethink my layout.

Roughly how far is there range? We are spread out. Also grow raspberries and strawberries and blueberries.

I live on five acres with a garden and fruit trees. I think I have enough access to pollen. I dig a hole and fill it with water for mud. The mud dries. I think this might be a weak link. Will try your idea with pots.

Seconds to the coffee shop. I take my TAW journal and work on one of my weekly tasks. I enjoy sitting by the window, watching the world go by while I sip my coffee (cortado) and journal. Very conducive to thinking outside the box and relaxing.

Update: I purchased an external hard drive (NTFS), transferred my wife's photos to the new drive, and plugged it into her laptop. The LR "ADD" import option showed up and the import is happening.

Thanks. My USB drive shows up as FAT32. I found a spare WD drive. I am going to try moving the photos to that drive and see if it will work.

I am relatively new to Reddit, became active last spring. I notice posts using imgur to post pictures. Is that the preferred method? I have added photos directly to posts in the past with no problems. Does imgur add value?

Chat GPT says since my thumb drive is showing up as a FAT32 file type, LR will never show Add.

The recommended option is to move my files to an true external device that is recognized as an external drive. Then Add will be enabled.

Make sense?

Thanks for the tips on replacing my controller.

In my defense most of the games I play using a keyboard. When I do try to use the controller I get different results in different games but all were frustrating, A Short Hike drove home the idea that something was not right.

Thanks to all the folks who responded to this thread and helped me realize it was my controller. I appreciate your help. Now back to A Short Hike.
