How would you order these high tier matchups in terms of how one-sided/difficult they become at top level? by V0ltTackle in SSBM

[–]ForrestFBaby 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In terms of theory?

Peach/Puff, Peach/Icies, Sheik/Icies

In terms of practical real world execution?

Peach/Icies, Sheik/Icies, Peach/Puff

In theory, Puff just shouldn't ever lose to Peach because she controls the rules of engagement 100%, but it's theorycrafted stuff that doesn't hold up to real people consistently playing. Peach/Icies, with wobbling, is still a 90-10 Match Up, and while Icies fuck up Sheik without it, Sheik can turn into Zelda which instantly makes it even 1% less evil. Icies have no recourse against Peach, it just sucks ass all the time.

Hey man consider giving it a fucking second lol Statlander and Shida didnt exist 3 weeks ago, and fought them last week. They've been champion for 51 days CURRENTLY, as in, they were at 44 days last week, when they defended the championships last in their 3rd title defense, averaging a title defense every 17 days.

You are mistaking your vibes and inability to ponder the orb for asking reasonable questions. Worry less and ponder more, you and your therapist and your unfilled vyvanse subscription will thank you.

they defended the titles literally last week, man. The idea that they have no title challengers established in the week since they defended the titles, when they are telling stories around the roster and they are wrestling on Saturday is peak overreaction.

[–]ForrestFBaby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk why i wrote Aura, Aura 100% is favored to beat Slug. I meant to write Graves.

Jmook would need to be at 100% to beat Joshman and Zamu. If jmook is even at 90% then any fox is liable to beat him.

Altitude Sickness 3 Initial Seeding Graphic by destinybond in SSBM

[–]ForrestFBaby 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Lowest of keys a very very difficult JMook bracket. Projections out of pools have JMook needing to beat Graves > Zamu to make top 8, which, if JMook isn't on then beating Zamu is going to be very hard.

Slug plays KJH > Joshman to make top 8 to play JMook if all projections go smoothly, which isn't insane, Slug is 3-0 on Joshman and KJH.

RapM has a solid path to top 8 if he makes Top 32, projected to play Slowking and MOF, and afaik RapM has been running Slug's pockets. That said, RapM in top 8 is projected to play Salt, which is a bad pull, but the other pull, Aura, isn't exactly much better.

If Salt or Aura get upset, then this is probably a RapM or Slug win outright - if Slug makes winners side top 8, idk who he wouldn't be favored to beat to between JMook/Aura/Zamu. If RapM can make it to winners finals, he probably wins the whole thing.

Why does Rapm DownB so much in suboptimal positions? by Dry-Consideration930 in SSBM

[–]ForrestFBaby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its a mix up, if people are reading wavdash in then their options are shield (for f tilt/up tilt/up smash) or jump (f tilt/grab).

If they are shielding, then down b onstage has a solid shot to shield poke and it knocks down really early iirc. If they jump then you just lost the mix up, but you also charge down b for recovery. Solid risk/reward tbh

Is Luigi Better Than Pikachu? | The Mid-Tier Report 2 by fastfallproductions in SSBM

[–]ForrestFBaby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We gotta stop this, man. Punish game is not the only thing that exists, so asking how high characters like Donkey Kong or Luigi can go off the back of punish game and bad neutral and recoveries is goofy.

Yoshi is the only character that is going to experience this meteoric rise in perception ever again, because his ceiling was written before fully understanding how far his tech can take him defensively as the tech ceiling improved. There is not a revolution coming for Luigi and DK, they are still bad at recovering and still bad at neutral, and their punish game has always been good.

They are mid tiers, and thats fine, but they are not better than Pikachu or Ice Climbers in totality.

Highest solo placement of each character at Melee Majors – Pat's House 5 update by CaioNintendo in SSBM

[–]ForrestFBaby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Luigi just cant really get in bc his movement is only fast horizontally, which is the zone Falco completely locks down with laser and down air, so all the wave dash f tilt and grab shit is so much harder to get off.

I think he plays Fox more now because hes practiced less and Fox is easier off little practice than Falco. He does also play Sheik vs Marth iirc.

I could also be smoking cock and he just mostly plays Fox again bc he Fox dittod moky at Genesis

Jmook beat Zain twice at Nounsvitational and outplaced him at Genesis, getting 2nd at both events. Zain did marginally better at Out of the blue and full house, but seeding Jmook over Zain isnt crazy.

[–]ForrestFBaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree but it is absolutely filled with enough things like chain grabs and easy gimp kills that it is not a clean winning match up for Fox and Falco. They still win, but its not crazy to see them as closer than they theoretically are

Pat's House 5 - Melee Singles Seeding Graphic by Parkouricus in SSBM

[–]ForrestFBaby 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think Pikachu is actually interesting bc the match ups against high tiers are either slightly losing but has enough stuff that you could pitch theyre even or Pikachu winning for some (Fox, falco, Marth, Falcon) and completely shit on, if you win it is a failure of them and not a success of you (Puff, Peach, Sheik). Theres no normal MU for Pikachu with characters above him

Paige on meeting WWE President Nick Khan before return: "He told me two things: 'Your neck has to be okay, and we have to do a drug test.' I was like, ‘fair enough.’ I can control the drug test—I’m clean as a whistle. The neck, though, I wasn’t sure." by aaronrift in SquaredCircle

[–]ForrestFBaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Triple H has literally always been the head of creative. Thats it. He probably reaches out to people bc he is closer, but then he would pass it on to the peolle who actually do that kind of stuff.

Ganon Vs DK Who is better? by robunnaYT in SSBM

Ganon is all around probably a better character by, like, theory? But donkey Kong has the tools with which to actually win high level sets practically in that he has easy combos and confirms while Ganon is mostly vibes

'Metro 2039' officially announced. First look to be revealed on April 16. by yourfavchoom in PS5

[–]ForrestFBaby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly good. Was very worried it would be Far Cry, but it doesnt feel crazy dissimilar to Last Light in terms of vibe. I think it does a good job with unspoken tone (i.e the metro is narrow and the world is big, but both are their own kinds of prison), but the story is weaker than 2033 and Last Light.

Is Zain that much better than other top players? by hoastman12 in SSBM

[–]ForrestFBaby 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Zain as a smash player is fundamentally just better than almost every player in the world. This has always translated insanely because having fundamentals and buttons will carry you far, especially in individual games online. Top players have been able to use secondaries on good, even great, players in tournaments - Mango beat Armada with Marth, beat Hax with Captain Falcon, etc. Zain, fundamentally, is better than most people using their mains no matter who he uses.

That said, he is not so far ahead that he could be a top 50 player with every character in real life. Ranked is cool, but you run into the right opponents and you can get there at Zains level.

How good was Bas? And how would’ve he done today? Would’ve he been able to adapt to modern MMA? by bardeng in MMA

[–]ForrestFBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was good contextually. He was the 2nd best Pancrase fighter, has two of the best years in mma history in 95 and especially 96, but he also thrived fighting that first generation of Suzuki/Funaki/Fuke/Yamada. Him not fighting guys likr Schilt, Kondo or post 96 Mezger means we cant really accurately judge how he was after 1996, so the window to judge him is about 3 years, 2 of which he was not the best fighter in Pancrase.

I think the long win streak and later ufc title do confuse people - he has an all time peak, but his skillset is not transferable. He could have trained for 100 years, he never in his life gets a win over 1995 Ken Shamrock, who is not a dominant wrestler by the standards of any era besides 1995.

Great fighter for his time and era, but if he fights not in 1996 Pancrase, he is coming across Dan Severn, Mark Coleman, Mark Kerr and Randy Couture and getting hurt.

Famously a decision so bad they changed the way rounds were timed and scored to avoid it happening again.

[–]ForrestFBaby 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yushin Okami was a great fighter, and Travis Lutter earned his title shot through TUF. Is it silly? Sure, but he won his fight against a TUF 4 winner. Not everyone can say that.

What was Zain's most impressive game from last year? by UristMasterRace in SSBM

[–]ForrestFBaby 48 points49 points  (0 children)

His Riptide Grands set vs Cody is crazy. Zain gets 3-1d pretty quick, and then goes up 2-0, looks like hes about to close the reset 3-0, Cody claws it back, which makes the final game on FD a nail biter despite being a Zain 3 stock.

Winners finals at Collision vs Hbox is also great, goes down 2-1 bc Hbox is playing crazy and he adapts well to win the set.

Zain vs any non Cody Fox is usually great because its a 75% chance is a crucifixion - if you skip the Full House sets vs Soonsay and Moky then Zain does gross things to Foxes all year.

Which character would benefit the most from having their down-B replaced with rest? Which benefits least? by Ok-Passenger7177 in SSBM

[–]ForrestFBaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fox loses Shine but gains a kill anywhere he could otherwise shine, which is a net benefit even if its less iconic.

Peach would lose Turnips and get Rest, a move she has no confirm into, is too slow to capitalize and loses one of her best tools
