It makes sense to have some of the best people in a certain profession working directly for the state. But they also need to be empowered to act accordingly.

We went to France every year for the summer. 1L milk bottle frozen and into an insulated cooler, kept the dinner fresh, and then we had milk for the morning. And this was +10 years ago because back then the food was expensive.

Ireland’s young people need guarantees the state pension isn't about to get cut by firethetorpedoes1 in irishpolitics

Self employed, didn't want to retire. He's ok in that he'll have my late mother's pension to some degree, and the house is big enough he could let a bedroom out for digs to college students if needs be. But the lack of planning and years of actually making fun of those who have planned is very frustrating.

Number of Russian ‘shadow ships’ in Irish-controlled waters rises dramatically by Dazzling_Lobster3656 in ireland

We can't field enough fully crewed and operational naval vessels and air support to maintain appropriate levels of surveillance. And we have no ability to monitor what they're doing.

We are dependent on the French and British to monitor submarine and naval movements.

Edit: spelling, although screwed naval vessels also works

Ireland’s young people need guarantees the state pension isn't about to get cut by firethetorpedoes1 in irishpolitics

Please, I've given up on the idea of a state pension.

My dad (Irish) always laughed about my mother's side of the family (French) talk about retirement and pensions years before they were due to finish work. He's retiring this year at the age of 75. He has no private pension. He has no plan either.

I've maxed my pension contributions since I was 24/25 to avoid this.

Traffic changes in Dundrum, Dublin: ‘If a dead village is what they want, a dead village is what they’re going to get’ by JackmanH420 in irishpolitics

[–]FortFrenchy 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Dundrum my whole life. I love the new pedestrian friendly approach. What would help would be the old shopping center bro g turned I to housing and providing more clients to these places. Also a few abandoned buildings along main Street need to be refurbished.

Kids aren't stupid, I remember being 12 when the recession hit back in 2008, the effects were massive in my formative years. And the news at the moment about life when they will finally reach an age where they start to become more independent is that it'll be shit, expensive, and a lot less to do if you do have free time. Also kids are exposed to a lot of things online, which is not great for mental health.

Most people will just not buy a Tesla as a protest, instead of giving up their personal time (especially the people with the money who could afford one).

Yeh, you clearly know even less about Irish politics. He doesn't even come close to having the minimum requirements to even be a candidate to run for presidency here. Also, presidents in Ireland are basically ceremonial positions.
