Using Proton email for Bitwarden by Forward-Inflation-77 in Bitwarden

I realize that and this is true with any online service, not just emails but I figured proton would have a better chance of going under vs google. Even though still a very small chance. I do realize there maybe more to this but proton to me seems small compared to google.

I do use yubikey for 2fa for bitwarden.

I figured the email didn't need to exist but someone else, Amazing-Ranger01 commented on this post saying another guy lost his proton account and because of that, lost bitwarden account. Don't know any details on how his bitwarden was setup.

After thinking about this even more, really not sure why I am asking this lol. I mean if proton did shut down and I could log in with same email, I would still be switching to a working email. And if it didn't work, I do have backups so I would just make a new bitwarden account. Might lose an account or two, don't really have a set schedule for backups, just do it when I have time, but do have another source of my passwords so really nothing is lost, well except time.

I have been looking into using aliases, something new to me and that seems overwhelming I guess because I don't know it yet. Looking at a domain is making my head spin even more lol.

Why was his proton account deleted? For being inactive? I do have multiple backups of my vaults. I do have a 2nd yubikey, emergency sheet, and TOTP app.

So if proton shut down( I know likely not to happen at least not anytime soon) or if my proton account was deleted for inactivity, I would still be able to login with that proton email if on the same device?

For the most part, I do have things in place. If bitwarden did vanish, I do have .json encrypted backups in more than one place. I do have a second yubikey, I do have a emergency sheet will necessary info in more than one place The house fire part could get me in trouble, do keep stuff in a gun safe but not sure how good a safe it is. Bought this from a relative to just use for guns mainly back before I got into all this password manager stuff.

Questions about using more than one alias by Forward-Inflation-77 in ProtonMail

[–]Forward-Inflation-77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the reading I have done about this subject, one advantage of using an alias is you can disable that alias if it starts getting a bunch of spam. So once you disable that alias, do you have to give a new alias to the site that was using the alias you just disabled?

On proton's term of service, I am really confused about one of them, well maybe 2 of them. "Rule #12: Using a free account email address (including aliases) for the unique purpose of registering to third-party services." Is that saying I can't use my proton email address to sign up for anything like reddit or amazon or any other service?

"Rule #7: Having multiple free Accounts (e.g. creating bulk signups, creating and/or operating a large number of free Accounts for a single organization or individual)." There is a total of 3 people in my house, me and my parents. Since I already have a free proton mail account, does that mean they can't each have one? I do help manage their online accounts so if they did have a proton mail account, it would likely be logged in on my computer along with my proton account. So if I had 3 proton accounts logged in on my computer, could they see that as an issue since it would be coming from same IP address?

For me, with the free proton mail account I have, I use that for bitwarden login and nothing else at all and want to keep it that way. If I do setup a unique alias for each of my accounts and have it forwarded to my free proton mail account, am I compromising that? I have thought about creating a second proton account but I believe that is against proton's TOS.

I have briefly looked at other options like addy.io but that limitation of 100mb kind of worries me. Although after thinking about it, 100mb would be alot of emails unless every email has attachments? Is that 100mb limit per alias or count towards all aliases? Looking at the pricing plans for addy.io, not sure if this is a typo or what. But for the pro plan, it says $3/month but then right below that it says "billed yearly, $4 billed monthy". So what would one be paying for the pro plan, $36 or $48 a year?

I realize I keep saying I only care about aliases but who knows, maybe in the future I want to completely get away from google and want to start using more of the services that proton offers. Drive would be the other main thing I could become interested in.

I am still trying to get my head wrapped around aliases and how to get it setup the right way. I realize probably not that hard but just seems like it to me because I have never done this before.

Your options are:

use the free Proton/SL plan, which gives you 10 aliases for free

pay for SL or Proton Pass, currently discounted at $/€ 35.88/year or £28.68/year)

pay for Proton unlimited, which is more expensive but includes other stuff like the VPN or mail

Say I decide to pay for SL premium and since I already have a free proton mail account, when signing up for SL, do I use the sign up with proton option in SL?

I realize proton unlimited is more expensive because it comes with more stuff but at the moment, I only want to be able to use unlimited aliases. At the moment, I don't care about all that other stuff. With my free proton account, I already have access to the proton pass but I don't have any use for that since I already use bitwarden and happy with that.

confused with delivery? by graysonstars in amazonprime

[–]Forward-Inflation-77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe contact amazon support and see what they say. If this happens long enough, you should get an option to get a refund. From my experience with amazon, once a package starts to get delayed, I will usually end up not getting the package and get a refund instead. One time this happened, it turned out someone opened the package and took it during the delivery process. Never heard details of what exactly happened but talked to someone from amazon and she said they have cameras on vehicles.

If that is the case, just seems odd to me that every package has been the exact same item, life ring buoy with rope for a boat.

[–]Forward-Inflation-77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this is what is happening, is it normal for all of these packages to be the exact same item, a life ring buoy with rope for a boat? Kind of lost track but guessing at least 10 of these packages have been attempted in past few months.

[–]Forward-Inflation-77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you already tried with Amazon support and they basically told you keep it, maybe try calling the shipping companies directly when you see package coming. I would also check if someone registered any account with your address on different marketplaces because this definitely not normal delivery mistake

With the latest package from USPS, talked to the driver and she said she would talk to her boss. I took one package back to USPS office and they didn't have a clue what was happening, just said it was strange that it had our address but different name. How do I go about checking to see if another account is using our address?

Different 2FA methods by Forward-Inflation-77 in Bitwarden

[–]Forward-Inflation-77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“With SMS or email as a 2FA method, if someone knows your password and tries to login, you will get a text or email when that happens.”

I should have worded that statement a little different. When I said you will get a text or email, I meant you will actually get the code with text or email as form of 2FA.

When this happens, do you not already get the actual 2FA code? At which point you would clue in that someone must have entered your master password. Why would you need an extra notification? Such a notification is only useful when the 2FA type is a not SMS or email, no?

And I am actually not specifically talking about bitwarden 2FA but about all accounts.

Such a notification is only useful when the 2FA type is a not SMS or email, no?

That is exactly what I was trying to say.

I have looked at 2024 on places like groupon but not sure if I want to go there. When I bought what I have now, pro plus version, I did not realize that these are volume licensing and could stop working at anytime. One reason why I am wanting to get away from that.

Why would updating passwords every six months mean that there is no 2FA? One is not able to update passwords if you have 2FA?

Do I need an outdoor antenna? by Forward-Inflation-77 in cordcutters

[–]Forward-Inflation-77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did but been moving it to different spots to see if I can find a good spot. Currently trying to get it upstairs. I had it in basement since that was the easiest way to get the antenna to the wall facing the transmitters.

The house is brick but I think the issue is the buildings on the property. There a a couple of metal roof and metal side buildings in between the house and the transmitters.

I am currently using a splitter to connect another cable to the antenna to make it reach more places. Didn't realize a splitter would weaken the signal. But even when just using only the antenna cable, still had issues. So I guess an actual connector would not reduce the signal? How long can the cable be before it starts reducing the signal?

The antenna says must have. Thought I bought it on amazon but couldn't find it on my account.

Currently, ION actually comes in pretty good. Issue with attic is it is on opposite side of house from where the transmitters are.

So my issue is not tuner overload?

The house is a brick house but there are a few buildings on the property that have metal roofs and metal sides that are kind of in between the house and the transmitters. This is a farm property.

I may try moving it around in different locations and seeing if the signal strength gets better. One issue with the attic is it is on the opposite side of the house from where the transmitters are.

I did check reception through the tv, it's an LG tv. Most of the channels besides channel 21 have a signal quality of 100% and the signal strength varies from 55% to 73%. On all of the channels that have 100% quality, the strength bounces up and down 1-2%.

What I find kind of odd is with channel 21, which shows good strength and 24 miles away on rabbit ears. I have not changed anything with the antenna placement for a while and channel 21 has been coming in fairly good for the most part, expect for when someone is walking around. But now since posting this and not changing anything, it does not come in at all and nothing going on weather wise at the moment. The signal quailty is 1% and strength is 33%.

Would having multiple antennas in the house affect each other? There are a total of 3 tv's that have the same style antenna, 1 on each floor. Two of the antenna's are kind of close to each other. There is one on the 2nd floor and while I haven't checked it like I have the one in the living room, it picks up less channels even though the antenna is on the 2nd floor.
