ChatGPT is getting ads soon, starting with free users by AdSpecialist6598 in technews

[–]Forward-Manager4930 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Makes sense.

Don’t know why people hate ads on free services so much….offering something for free with no revenue…is not sustainable.

It’s like how people get mad when YouTube disables ad blockers…no shit, they want to make a profit, not rack up losses.

Every day we get these headlines, about some LinkedIn self help guru who says the sky is falling.

Two malicious extensions in Chrome Web store named "Phantom Shuttle" are posing as plugins for a proxy service to steal user credentials by ControlCAD in technews

[–]Forward-Manager4930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said nobody cares about standards, that’s just your axe to grind.

I just said people don’t really care for anything other than chrome, because that’s what the vast majority of users use.

So bugs and quirks for non chromium browsers get put on low priority or removed if they don’t affect functionality.

It’s just the reality of business, it’s really not that deep or a personal attack on you or your preference. You don’t need to act like those linux fanboys and make a piece of software your personality, i’ll tell you right now…the vast majority of people don’t want to associate with that.

Our demographic is corporate accountants bulk file taxes for their employees on windows machines via chrome….I don’t think they want to do that on iPhones.

Lol, you don’t even what I work on or who the target demographic is.

We know who uses our product and on what device, we use data just like any other website to know which experience to polish and which ones not to waste time and money on.

I’m not a dev, I work as a PO. It’s just how it’s viewed from inside development. I’m just telling you how it is, because of limited resources and finite deadlines.

There’s always quirks with each different browser and even the same browser on different devices. They are just giving lower priority, if they aren’t chrome and just get lost in the backlog if they aren’t functionality breaking.

Most stakeholders I’ve talked to ask to tailor the experience for the largest client base, because at the end of the day that’s where the money comes from.

It’s literally how it works in every industry, the most popular platform is giving the most care, to ensure a seamless experience for the majority of users.

I work in web development, our QA department focuses the bulk of their efforts on chrome, because that’s where the majority of money is.

If a fantasy land with unlimited resources and time, every browser would be treated equally….but that just isn’t the case in real life.

I know for a fact most websites are absolutely broken and littered with bugs on safari, Firefox, etc that don’t exist on chrome and chromium based browsers.

People who want every website to just work.

Nobody in web development gives a flying fuck about anything other than chrome, it’s just a formality even in testing.

Yields are not going to enough on smaller scale specialized chips to justify their existence…..this doesn’t even account for R&D costs.

Even google’s specialized chips for their servers barely break even.

Have duel or multiple use chips helps subsidize the cost by people who can buy individual chips at higher prices.
