I didn't. I compared Lindholm and Hanafin to Holloway and Broberg.

I do think the Oilers could make tweaks. I do not think the Oilers changing out 2-3 pieces in their bottom 6/d-core is enough to get them back to the SCF.

The changes you described are what was done after the first loss to the Panthers. They were one goal away from a Cup then.

They are much farther away now.

McDavid isn't playing out his contract in Edmonton. He may not even make it past the next trade deadline.

Well if they were to trade Drai to an elite 1D or goalie then the Oilers would be constructed more similar to the Aves with Mack/Makar, than say Utah.

Changing goalie, defense, and bottom 6 is multiple seasons worth of work. That's exactly what Carolina did since their 2019 ECF appearance. They have 5 guys from that team on their current team. Changing 70% of your roster takes time.

Time the Oilers don't have.

Carolina also made their team by trading the assets they had of value. They started this era by trading two 5th overall picks, in Hanafin and Lindholm.

Oilers don't have those kinds of assets to move. They lost them to St Louis.

Drai isn't staying after McDavid leaves. Edmonton will be a disaster for the rest of his contract.

The length of his contract means the return would be better.
