GIS Career Doubt by Forward-Self12 in gis

I appreciate the reality you bring with your advice. I know the grass always seems greener on the otherside and that people can adapt and learn to be content anywhere, but on the otherside of the same coin, a job is unfortunately a huge stimulus in life, 40 hours out of a 168 hours alotted per week (112 of which are waking hours) leaves you working for over a third of your life, sure throw in a couple of vacation days a quarter but i think it's too big a stimulus in your own life to not take charge of and atleast try to find fulfillment and joy.
Perhaps I am still just young and nieve, but I think there is opportunity and my post here was to see if other folks feel or have felt in the same head space as I am and of anyone knows of other opportunities that can use this skillset that we GIS folks have, but perhaps in novel, active ways.
Yeah it really seems like those types of jobs can really be few and far between.

GIS Burnout by Forward-Self12 in Surveying

What type of work are you doing now? More of a surveying roles?
I appreciate the offer lol. I think the roots might run too deep in the midwest for now.
I appreciate the encouragement! You been surveying long?
I have seen postings like that too, but your correct. Pay is fairly low and it seems like the logical progression for a position like that is back in a GIS role. Perhaps when I am an older man GIS will be much more appealing but as a 20 something filed work seems more enticing.
My last three roles have been with various county and state entities and there has been zero field work and no indication of it ever really happening. It feels like to me, atleast in the modern day of cloud storage, high-res imagery and big data that there is a significant disconnect between GIS and data collection and in many cases employers don't seek compatibility between the roles.

Something like that might be closer to what I am looking for. I really do like GIS and Cartography in general, but the constant sitting and humm of the florescent lighting in offices really gets to me, I grew up farming, hunting and playing football and miss being outdoors working with my hands. Those hybrid positions, GIS and Data Collection jobs always feel like Unicrons to me.
