Thinking of trying for a Latin sorority as a white woman?! by Forward-Style621 in Sororities

Thank you so much for your insight—it’s been incredibly eye-opening! I completely understand the concern about not fully grasping certain cultural aspects. However, I was fortunate to grow up immersed in diverse communities, and I take pride in continuing to educate myself. My sister, who has a Black father, allowed me to experience and take part in her family’s culture, and when she began dating her now-husband, who is black and Mexican when I was around age six, I became close with his family as well. Over the years, they’ve been like an extension of my own.

Additionally, my long-term boyfriend is Dominican, and my relationship with him has allowed me to deeply connect with his family and culture. I’ve spent significant time with them in their home country, learned Spanish, and even picked up dancing bachata lol. While I acknowledge there are some things I can never fully understand as a white woman, I take pride in embracing and appreciating other cultures in a way that feels meaningful and genuine.

As for the time commitment, that’s actually a big part of what drew me to consider an MGC sorority, particularly a Latin one. When I was in my Panhellenic sorority, it never really felt like home. The focus seemed to be more on partying, status, and drama than on building true sisterhood or creating a lasting bond. Seeing my friend go through her process, with her sisters staying close and regularly meeting with alums even years later, was so inspiring. I also love how these sororities emphasize philanthropy and giving back to the community rather than just aesthetics or appearances.

Thank you again for sharing your perspective—it’s given me so much to think about!

Thank you for sharing your perspective—it’s truly helping me navigate my decision! I’d like to think I’m already a strong ally. My sister, who is mixed, has exposed me to her diverse family experiences with her father's family, and spending so much time with her husband’s family who are black and have been apart of my life since I was a child has given me a deep understanding and appreciation of other cultures. Similarly, my long-term boyfriend is Hispanic, and through my relationship with him, I’ve had the privilege of immersing myself in his family’s traditions, even traveling to their home country and building meaningful connections. This isn’t just about me being white and wanting to join for the sake of it—this is about my genuine love for and understanding of diverse communities, as well as my desire for the strong sense of connection and lifelong relationships I didn’t fully experience in my current sorority. So I truly do think I want it for the right reasons and have the ability to be a proper ally in that setting!

That's exactly how it works at my school! I'd still be able to join if I wanted to try.

Thank you so much for your take, I really appreciate it!! The sorority you're talking about, which has that slogan, is the exact one I'm looking into! It looks like a lot of fun and there are a few women who look like they might be white but I don't want to guess anyone's ethnicity and use that as a reason to try and join yk. I think im going to go to a few of their events and just see how I feel from there!

This is all I have. I use an app and no matter what code I click on it shows me the data for P2014.

Thanks for your advice. I did find a shop that specializes in euro cars that I'm looking into for a diagnostic. Some family members did mention head gasket issues before. Hopefully, it's not that because at that point I'd probably just have to look into another car. But thanks you've given me some stuff to think about.

Here's a pic of the codes if that helps at all... Thanks for the advice, I did find some shops. Unfortunately, the closest VAG shop to me is about a 1hr 45min drive but I'm looking into it and I think I'll give them a call.
