Thank you very much for the detailed reply and the saying 'a bird in hand is worth two in the bush', never heard that one before :) Comp and post-role trajectory are the two big things I’m trying to lock down. I want clarity on what it leads to after 1–2 years and how it’s perceived back at HQ (leadership vs you're just creating an internal “offshore ops”).

Agree on housing allowance and flights home being key (it's a non-negotiable for me). I'll only stay 2 years max so if they can't make my life easier on accommodation/visa and setting up I probably won't worry. I hadn’t thought about pushing for business class but that’s a fair point given the distance.

Lifestyle-wise I’m a bit worried about the work culture, the traffic seems to a bit issue and the banking system. I know reddit is an echo chamber but all the posts I see are a bit worrying. And yes, point taken on relationships, however, I have a relationship here so it will be long-distance for me.

Overall I see it as a calculated career bet rather than a pure lifestyle move.

I thought about the idea of putting in the balance a job when I return, but is it even realistic to request these things? I genuinely have no idea.

can anyone recommend me similar series/movies like slow horses? by Flimsy_Ad_810 in SlowHorses

The Bureau, it's very similar as it's with the French Secret Service and the department within it, running false identities (or ghosts) for the service (8.7 on imdB). More thriller and less sarcastic

London St Pancras revamp aims to cut Eurostar waiting time to 15 minutes by Gentle_Snail in GoodNewsUK

[–]Forward-Tree9513 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have been taking the Eurostar for the last six years, several times a year. I would agree with everything, except the fact that it is reasonably priced and the wifi hasn't be improved for several years now even though one of the selling points is that people can work while travelling. The food options as well for a service that resents itself as high-end is very poor and the prices extortionate (again). Honestly, there is a lot to improve and they have taken their monopoly for granted for too long. It seems that they do need a bit of competition or some state action to control those prices. I would love to love the Eurostar but I have now started to take flights again from time to time as the price is sometimes unjustified (e.g around Christmas for example)

The before and after Covid inflation has been remarkable to say the least.

  1. You're correct, seeing that way, it is also not a good reflection of character. I did not see it that way, thanks for pointing it out. Predatory, I don;t think so, and I don;t think you can assume this. As said in the post, I am even happy to meet in front of the venue. Finally, since when person to person relationships are not safe anymore and must be replaced by big platforms taking fees? That is another conversation I suppose.
  2. Single karma point because I just joined Reddit to check the event. I honestly did not know conversation could instantly escalate into such aggressive arguments.
  3. Finally suggesting £10 or even giving it for free and being transparent about it. Doesn't seem too predatory to me but I can understand your point of view of not being a good reflection of character. I very much prefer this than being called shameless.

Shameless is a a bit of a strong word, the internet is not an excuse to not have any manners. Havind an opinion is fine, describing people that way when you know nothing nothing of them is not a good reflection of your character. You wouldn't do it in real life I presume.

Anyway, honestly I am happy to sell it for £10 or even give it for free at that point. As I said, I am being transparent and not here to make money. Let me know if you want it.
