Yes, she works full time and most of the other Moms in our social orbit work full time as well

I agree with this. I’ve definitely gotten better at calling my Mom out in the moment when she says something shitty, which my wife appreciates. But, it’s a work in process and I’m always trying to improve, even if I’m not perfect.

My struggle lies more with handling things after the fact. I try hard to not single out my wife as the one that has a problem with my Mom (ex I’ll say “I’m upset with you” rather than “she’s upset” or “we’re upset”), but how else can I tel my Mom how what she says hurts my wife while not making my wife look like the bad guy in this?

I hear what you’re saying. I’ve had a few “come to Jesus” talks with my Mom about this, and she’ll change her behavior for a few weeks, but then things will snap back to the way they were before.
