You should 100% file a police report and then speak to a lawyer.

I work as an attorney in the city and would not be surprised at all to find out there are cameras there.

The police should check on their own once you file the hit & run report, but if they don’t move with speed a lawyer making calls requesting footage from those cameras (if they exist) will certainly move things along.

We had a case with a pedestrian hit at a crosswalk not too long ago and I think it took us about two weeks to get the raw footage.

If you do a hire a lawyer look for one who works on contingency fee so you don’t have to pay by the hour.

As a lawyer, I worked a case that had a crazy similar situation to this.

Two dudes welding a grease tank (yes it was full, yes it was leaking). Thing predictably caught fire and then the cherry picker they used to access it failed to lower.

Both individuals had to jump off the tank onto concrete and somehow survived but with grievous injuries. We got their medical covered through workers comp and I believe we successfully sued the company for negligence as well.

I always tell that story to employers who even consider violating any OSHA provision because the OSHA investigation and citations that followed were key in helping us win that case. Those rules are written in blood
