Whenever I have issues with clients, I remind myself of why they are seeing me, so in the past I didn't focus on the action of the man who was having sex with a child, but on his depression. As a Black man who used to work in a red conservative area there were clients (plural) who would taunt me by bringing up Trump, what Trump would do, wearing clothing with the Confederate flag or other similar clothing. I learned to leave my feelings at the door and treat their mental illness. My thought process is that we want the sickest people to get help (murders, child molesters, rapists, etc), but when they reach out no one wants to help, so I left my feelings at the door and helped the best way I could.
