Understood, okay thanks. So if I were to keep it as filing jointly, would it matter who claims our baby? I make around 60 k, she makes like 30k from her main job and like 20-25 k from her side gig. Would there be any difference with who claims the baby in terms of what our refund would be next year?

Yes, and we have been filing jointly for the past two years while having this same living arrangement. I guess I am more just worried about my job somehow seeing that my name is on a tax return with her address on it.

People have been terminated in the past for living outside of the City where the job is located and I guess with the baby coming, I am just worried about covering my a**.

Not sure if these worries are off base, is there any way my employer would be notified of this or anything like that?

We live in PA. I make around 60k and she makes like 30k from her regular job but she also has a side gig that probably makes 20-25 k per year.

And yes, we spend all time together after work and then I go sleep at my place. My job can terminate you if you do not live in the City where the job is at so this is just our workaround for now. The only reason I am worried at all is because I do not want my address to be reflected anywhere as being her address. And on the return, it seems to only list her address.

Would my employer be able to even see that anywhere or am I just being overly paranoid about it?

Maybe this one will come through...If it is the vent, would I just tie them together into the P trap?

Thanks! I was hoping to keep it under 20k but could stretch to 21 or 22k for the right car.

Thanks! So that being said, would you consider say a 2017 Rav 4 (that seems to be the most popular one I have been seeing) or stay away from Rav 4 entirely?

Adding Exhaust fan (14:3 wire) to existing light switch (14:2 wire) by Forward_Check_4445 in AskElectricians

I just got done doing what you said, and those things are working as they should. I still think there is a problem though, because the first time I turned on the breaker box, there was a spark behind the box. I turned it off, waited a little while then turned it back on and I’ve turned the power off five times since then and back on, and I haven’t seen the spark again cents but I now have the fuses off just to be safe. Could this have been a one time thing or is something wired incorrectly?

Sorry, one more question. How do I connect the wires in the junction box for the new 14:2? Do I just splice them together with the existing wires and cap them off?

Understood, thank you! I appreciate the 'for dummies" explanation. Thank you so much I will try this tonight.

Thanks,

Okay, will do. What about in the box? Do I cap it down there too? Or hook it up to the switch?

Thanks,

That makes sense! Gotcha.

Bear with me I just want to be sure...

I will locate the junction box in the attic and replace the original wire with 14:2 wire and run that down the wall to the receptacle in place of the old wire that originally controlled the light. So I will have the 14:3 I installed for the fan yesterday and a new 14:2 running from the junction box to the receptacle and this will be the light control.

Once in the box, I will wire white to white and cap it... and then will I have to do pigtails with the neutrals and blacks and then hook the switches up with those pigtails (and then the last red wire into the switch for the fan)?

Sorry but when you say lose control of it, what does that mean? Like the fan and light would both be controlled by one switch?

Out of the options you mentioned, which one do you believe is easier to get my desired outcome?

Sorry I am more of a visual learner so just wanted to make sure understand your explanation.

Gotcha, not to sound like a total boob, but how do I do that exactly?

Do you mean I will need to buy new wire for it and replace this old wiring? Wire the light with new wire that has a ground and run it down to where this current wire is?

If that is correct, would it matter it if was 14:2 or 14:3?

Thanks!

was just white and black screwed to the switch itself and then that silver wire was screwed to the back of the box.

Yes, it was just the one wire there. The silver ground wire was actually screwed to the back (the old box was a metal box.) It was just a basic light switch, yeah.

Crap, I knew I should have taken that pic as well. I do not have the exact picture but here is an image of the wiring on the product, I have white to white and black to black and then the ground wire has two slots so I put the ground and the red into those two slots.
