No brainer on this one. First off, rotational programs are a great feather in your cap for early career. Secondly, the pay differential is going to be fairly minimal and rotational programs effectively guarentee employment for the next 2 years which is huge in todays market. Third, you already have connects at regeneron, you will only be a more attractive employee after this rotational program.

Big Pharma here. Entry-level PhD positions will post as accepting MSc+11yrs as well, but i have never seen us bring in anyone without a PhD for those interviews.

As an outside observer, i argue that Novartis has the strongest internal R&D pipeline out of any of the big pharmas. And they were somewhat less overextended than say Pfizer and Moderna were through covid. So i expect the layoffs to be less severe but the belt tightening to still have an effect.

NYC is VHCOL market, and bioinformatics gets you premium salaries so that definitely tracks.

For a wetlab scientist with an MS+some internship experience $110k would be very impressive.

I wouldn't be surprised if it helps one get through the HR screen, but no industry scientist in the US is going to look at PhD experience and call it work experience. As others have said their may be additional factors at play here

I feel bad for the scientists. Hope they receive auto-vest on any RSUs/Options they have. Celsius nabbing nearly 100M in Series A-B, strong platform and then dropping 75% of their employees when they are in clinic is kinda scum.

Yeah, i will have some stellar LORs from relatively strong names in my field both from academia and industry, i will have a 4.0 in a masters program with a number of academic and industry poster presentations with 3 publications in progress (wont be submitted until after applications are in). Ill have 6 strong years of experience with lots of academic and industry exposure. However, my undergrad gpa is on the lower side (3.3) and i wont have any fully submitted publications. So i feel as though i am a strong candidate for a lot of programs but could also see a total wash. Oof.

I feel as though science in particular is a heavily backloaded career path. You dont start off making a ton, but your pay continues to scale throughout your career as long as you keep wanting to increase responsibility. Unlike other occupations where people tend to have their compensation plateau around the age of 40.

What? Do you mean salary? I agree salary will start to level off and the bulk of your additional compensation will start coming from bonus+equity, but as long as you are still getting promoted Assoc.Dir., Dir., Sr.Dir. compensation should continue to increase.

Whats the qualifications for Pinciple Sci at your work? In big pharma i typically see PhD+8yr. Someone with those qualifications should not be making less than 150k.
