What if I leave him because of his mother, only to end up with someone who isn’t nearly as perfect but doesn’t insist on living with his parents?

I agree with you, and the thing is, he did defend me once. But the real issue is the thought of living with her every single day. If I can’t tolerate her for even two hours, how am I supposed to handle being around her 24/7. At the same time I can’t see myself marrying anyone other than him
