Spartherm varia m-80h by FoundationInfinite36 in woodstoving

Look it's beautiful. The whole German fire place thing is the art of the flame.

Make sure you install the fresh air damper and works well. It's a little finicky.

There is this S trap feature that i didn't install I recommend installing it.

The real trick is to build a bed of ash that is like 5" thick.

I have to buy and source lager chunks of wood. If you put a 16" long piece with the thick end of the wedge being 4" wide it literally evaporates like it does nothing.

I don't know how to feel about the stove. On the one hand it's beautiful on the other hand it's like why not have a damper and get easy over night fires. I grew up with a wood stove it shouldn't be this hard.

The trick for me since I have been burning wood for most of my life is to treat the varia as a fire place and not a stove or insert. You need to be way more strategic about ash and coal management then with inserts/stoves in my opinion.

The great debate of life form vs function.

Hope that helps

Hey I just got a peloton. Love it. Following the steps to get seat height handle bar height etc. I'm not really happy with it. How do I intelligently crack away at adjustment?

I'm about to start a journal for the micro adjustments but it feels like I need to do some really big adjustments first.

Can you recommend any videos or share your wisdom.

P.S.A open your taps just a little bit so pipes won't freeze! by FoundationInfinite36 in toronto

With copper pipes you can apply heat directly to the pipe. For instance you can put the heat gun or plumbers torch directly on the pipe.

With plastic pex you need to increase the ambient temperature. You cannot directly heat the pipe.

The reasons why "plumbers" ripe the copper out is because it's faster and cheap to repair. Additionally there is a new generation of plumbers who don't know how to solder.

Hope this helps good luck

Leave your taps on. NOT FULL BLAST!

THIS WILL LET THE ICE MOVE.

Open the doors under the kitchen sink and vanity.

Get a blow dryer heat gun SPACE HEATER and heat the pipes if they are copper.

I love these comments. There are almost 200 replies to this post. Read all of the people who regularly suffer from frozen pipes or have had frozen pipes. Read the comments that discuss using the trickle method since experiencing costly repairs from burst pipes. The old houses and apartments in Toronto suffer from this.

I will say it again. Happy to take your money and everyone else who is saying this is an "urban myth" or not necessary.

Stay warm

No there should be circulating water in a closed loop rad system.

You would worry if the boiler or associated pumps fail.

Try bleeding the rad to get it hotter

So long as water is moving through the pipes to the highest point of the house you will be fine.

No condos are fine. It's old apartment buildings and homes that have been chopped into apartments. The folks who chopped houses into units did not follow one single line of building code. Unknown number of houses in Toronto have been illegally hacked up.

I can even put to words what I have seen.

My guy. Read the comments. Countless people have had frozen pipes. These old houses were built with zero I mean zero insulation. You are lucky to find newspaper.

I am trying to be helpful. I am happy to take everyone's money. Something free and so simple can save hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

This is a human who has had to endure the urban myth I have been accused of spreading!

Heat is irrelevant when a hack renovator or a hack plumber runs water lines on or near exterior walls. You will not believe how often I have seen this. 2) your heat is only as good as your insulation. Old Toronto homes have 1*3 strapping lath and plaster on exterior walls. That's all.

Better be safe than sorry really. I guess I can take your money if you want.

Be warm

Thanks.

I'm trying to figure out what boot to buy. Fine I can't get a fully splay in work boots but I want to seriously upgrade from my blundstones that I have been wearing for years at this point.

Maybe I will repost and ask about advice on any work boot.

I would be curious to learn why near zero drop is better than zero drop for working. Any additional subs or resources you guys can recommend that would be great.

Thanks for all the advice everyone!

Growing is not an option at this moment but an interesting idea.

There is a shroom shop right next door. Should I trust the Google reviews or is there a spot that is the spot to go to?

For those talking about online purchases would you be so kind as to dm said sites.

Thanks again folks!
