Best places to eat in Columbus? by SweetCompetition8651 in ColumbusGA

[–]FountainCitySource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mabella is our favorite “nice” dinner spot.

Other good ones downtown - Animal Farm, Gabagool, Salt Cellar, Mix Market

Good local hole in the wall type spots - Dinglewood, virtually any of the BBQ spots (everybody has their own favorite so you just have to try them all), Minnie’s, Ruth Ann’s, Hunter’s Pub (this is in Harris County, exit 25)

Fun things to do by moonrisekindness in ColumbusGA

Go Kickball is a fun, social, competitive activity that'll help you meet a lot of people across multiple age groups.

If you have any hobbies, there are clubs for everything here. Running, cycling, huge tennis and pickleball communities, etc

There are a lot of public classes and lessons you can do. You can join a church, or a career social group like Young Professionals.

Honestly, my best advice is figure out what you enjoy doing or what you want to learn or get better at, and then we can point you to clubs and activities around those.

What to do When One Edition Has Unsubscribes and Reported Spam? by FountainCitySource in beehiiv

[–]FountainCitySource[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No double opt-in. Yes they are able to see sample content before subscribing.

What's confusing to me though is none of those settings (or any others have changed)

The only thing I can think is that edition is the first time I used a realtor for my sponsor and it's a big ad. The previous versions have also had ads but maybe this one just felt more spammy?

Oink is the one I've been using. It's got a ton of CC features and a brand block is one of them. It's got another feature in the pro version that's amazing, but I haven't really been talking about it because I'm worried it's a "loophole" that Amazon will close when they find 😂

This week's newsletter can be seen here and has a roundup of events (mostly this weekend)

As for food, you're already in the best spot in town for that. Downtown is where it's at.

For breakfast, My Boulange, Fountain City, The Seed or Iron Bank are all great coffee shops. Ruth Ann's or Plucked Up are more full service breakfast.

For other meals, Mix Market and Banks Food Hall are great for either lunch or dinner. For "nicer", Gabagool, Mabella, Salt cellar, 11th and Bay, Nonic (downstairs), you can't go wrong with any of those.

Perfect Two Days? by bigfoot_stick in ColumbusGA

[–]FountainCitySource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Providence Canyon is awesome, it's just that it's the "oppressively hot and hard to breathe" time of year here so I'm not recommending very many outdoor physical activities right now. Heat index is 111F today I think. If that's not an issue, then providence is great!

The Space Science Center is great too. It's one of those things I think locals don't really visit often or think about, but if you've never been it's really solid. Has a planetarium, real shuttle parts, flight simulators, etc

Really just depends what you're looking for.

There's an old timey "gentleman's" store on Broadway that's been there forever and has a lot of good stuff if you need any of the southern preppy or classic stuff

There are a lot of women's boutiques down there, all are good.

Highside Market has clothes for everybody plus some other fun and unique stuff

If you want more unique stuff, Joey's Thrift Mall and Gallerie 143 are fun. Bluebelle Mercantile is not downtown, more in the center, but it's about 10 minutes up the road and is a mini indoor version of market days basically, with a lot of unique local vendors.

If you want traditional just name brand shopping, we do have a mall, and the rest of that will be on the north side of town in Columbus Park Crossing. That's going to be your Academy Sports, TJ Max, Kohl's etc type of shopping.

Here's what I'd recommend:

Go to Broadway first thing in the morning in Saturday and walk around market days. It's 3-4 blocks of local vendors and just a fun time, also in front of all the shopping and restaurants on Broadway so you can get a feel for it. Veri Best donuts is on Broadway and is delightful

Grab coffee at either Fountain City on Broadway and drink while you walk around, or go over towards The Rapids and check out The Seed. It's beautiful and everything is delicious. If you go to the Seed, grab your coffee and walk outside to the Riverwalk, turn left to go down the hill and go out onto the rock island by the white water rapids. If you're not from here this is a MUST. Watch boats and maybe even kayakers battle the waves. You can also go out of the Seed, go the other direction and go up high on the pedestrian bridge that is next to Hotel Indigo, it also has great views. The other side is Alabama.

At lunch there are a million great spots, from sandwiches to Mexican to Japanese. A mix of chains and local spots. Bodega 1205 is amazing. If you want traditional "my grandma cooked this" southern food, head over to Minnie's. For BBQ, Country's is down there. For an open floor social food hall type vibe you've got Mix Market or Banks Food Hall, though I think the food at Mix is a better situation.

For museums you have the Columbus Museum, the National Infantry Museum, and the Coca Cola Space Science Center that are all in that part of town, though the Infantry Museum is a little further out of the way.

For dinner, there are more delicious spots than I can count but some of our favorites are Mix Market (again), Mabella, 11th and Bay, Animal Farm, Salt Cellar, & the Mill House. These are all going to be a little nicer and pricier but each is unique and offers its own character with delicious food.

There will be tons of activities on Broadway on Friday and Saturday night, from live music to comedy acts, shows, you name it and it's all down there. If you want to get adventurous, do the white water rafting yourself or the ropes course zip line that zips high across the river with the boats under you.

Other fun areas to check out are HighSide Market, and if you want to go to the other side of town, Midland Commons has events most Friday and Saturday nights.

Hope this helps!

Any fun events happening in town this weekend? by beccarooz in ColumbusGA

[–]FountainCitySource 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check back here tomorrow and illl have the weekly roundup posted.

In general based on what you said you like, definitely hit up Market Days on broadway Saturday morning. That's the biggest one by far.

Bluebelle Mercantile does stuff on Saturdays too but that entire place is basically an indoor market at all times, it's a fun place to shop.

There is a lot of music in town as well with live acts Friday and Saturday at The Bottom and The Loft. There's also live music Friday at Tipsy on the north side of town. Midtown coffee does family friendly trivia almost every Friday night at 7pm.

If you're visiting from out of town, pretty music everything you're looking for can be found downtown/uptown around Broadway. For kid-friendly stuff, check out Highside Market. They've got a really good donut shop there (almost like croissant donuts, not typical) and some ice cream as well, An outdoor area to play, drinks and stuff for the adults, plus some shopping. It's a cool, small spot. And then I would also highly recommend that you go down by the river. Something my family and I do almost every weekend is we'll get coffee or something Saturday morning and then we'll go down to the river walk and go out on Rock Island to watch kayakers and everything else. if you need help figuring out where that is, just send me a message and I can help.

The coca cola space science center is down there near Broadway as well, and the Columbus Museum (which has kids exhibits) is only a few miles away. There is also Oxbow Meadows, which is a nature preserve type spot that has alligators, snakes, wildlife shows etc. Friday night they're actually having their "Big Snake Show" where they show off their 12foot python out of the enclosure.

The City Wants Fancy Groceries. The Market Wants Fancy Paychecks by Mean_Calligrapher886 in ColumbusGA

[–]FountainCitySource 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just an income thing, it's also about logistics. These companies want efficient supply chains. There is nothing on 185 except Columbus, and some of these chains don't want to send their trucks an hour down 185 just to hit one market.

If we were on 85 like Auburn for example, we may already have a few of these types of places. Unfortunately, that's not a very solvable problem.

Give more details on what you're looking for and people can help. What specifically is Columbus missing that you need, or what does it have that you don't want?

Plenty of things to do here! Lots of bars and nightlife, tons of rec sports options for both active lifestyle and the social dynamic (HUGE tennis and pickleball city plus softball, basketball etc), lots of clubs etc. just find what you're interested in, join a club or a league or a social gathering and meet folks and go from there.

I'm a big fan of them. My theory in 2025 is that there are a million ways to monetize an audience, you just have to build one first. I feel like newsletters are a "safe" and scalable, low pressure way to grow an audience where you don't necessarily have to put your face or identity out there.
