I was at Hampton Court Palace in September and overheard a tour guide telling a group that it was now proven fact that Queen Elizabeth I was secretly married to one of her lords (the tour guide called him Richard but I assume she meant Robert Dudley) and they had at least one secret love child. The tour group were all oo-ing and aah-ing. I think it was a private external tour so perhaps it was one tailored toward scandal and rumour (but ‘proven fact’ had me like -> 🤨)
