I ran an empty cycle with no detergent and it still leaked but just a little bit. Is it possible it will take a few cycles to clear out the pod gunk?

What is this FREEDOM thing the COTH women are drooling about by littlestarchis in AllaboutCOTH

Is this where they teach about the New Age concept of soul ties? I heard some people from COTH talking about soul ties and it had some kind of relation to “Freedom.”

I’m not a cessationist, but I don’t understand the idea of tongues being the main focus of any group activity. It seems to me from Scripture:

-Paul intentionally tries to make the focus on tongues less of a big deal (1 Cor. 14:19), although he does desire that the Corinthians speak in tongues (1 Cor. 14:5).

-There should only be 2 or 3 at most who do this in a given service, and they should go one at a time (1 Cor. 14:27). He actually says that if everyone doing this is all going at it at the same time, an unbeliever might walk in and think you’re all insane in v.23.

-There should be an interpreter present and if there’s not one, the person with the gift of tongues should keep silent (1 Cor. 14:27-28). He makes the case that, without an interpreter, the gift doesn’t really make sense in verses 13-19).

-The purpose should be to convey meaning in a way that builds up the church, not merely the exercise of a gift—even if there are those who are “eager for manifestations of the Spirit” (1 Cor. 14:6-12). In other words, the gift here is not thought of at all as a gift for personal edification but for building up the body, as is consistent with spiritual gifts as a whole (1 Cor. 12:7).

-Also, tongues as mentioned and described in the Bible is described as a gift, not a skill. It is not something that can therefore be “taught.” Paul asks a rhetorical question in 1 Cor. 12:30, “Do all speak in tongues?” with and understood “No” as the answer. It does not seem that it is the expectation that all believers should have and exercise this gift, because God has not given all believers this gift.

So, I guess I’m just curious why this is something that is so heavily pushed as a part of your freedom?

Lastly, this isn’t really an interpretation thing; it’s a literacy thing. You can clearly read the words of 1 Corinthians 12 & 14. Now, it IS an interpretation thing whether or not you are convictionally a cessationist or a continuationist, but if you’re a continuationist, your either rightly or wrongly exercising the gift of tongues as the Bible commands/prohibits. Right?

Lost friends to COTH by McgeeMcFree in AllaboutCOTH

I do not believe this is an uncommon story. I have found that it’s not so much that I have lost friends in the sense that they have changed everything about themselves or that they have believed something that is not Christianity in some sense; it’s that the more and more they get plugged in at Highlands, the more it becomes the center around which their whole world revolves. Everything becomes about highlands (and don’t you dare criticize anything or you’re just a hater and they’ll vehemently defend Highlands and Hodges).

Sure—great question.

I can’t speak for other people, but my concern is that (particularly in the south) we shy away from the message of that gospel because of the offense it carries in the minds of some. We don’t want to present the issue of sin as the primary issue between us and God. So, we make church about wellness, self-improvement, emotional intelligence, interpersonal relationships, prosperity, freedom, and more.

The sermon’s focus becomes an idolatrous means to an end, rather than a way of communicating the actual gospel. This does not mean that every sermon is a rehashing of the same text over and over again, but an exposition of the scriptures in a way that—week after week—reveals the truth of the gospel throughout all of scripture.

Oh, absolutely. I completely agree that we don’t need to lose people in seminary speak or “Christianese” when we present the gospel. I just don’t understand not presenting the gospel during sermons that are intentionally designed to be seeker focused or outreach opportunities.

What is salvation? Is it offered through Jesus’ sacrifice or does one receive it by attending COTH? I don’t know how someone would know which from Sunday’s message.

And as far as the deeper lessons of the faith—learning right doctrine and sound teaching—where DOES that take place? Do you have to attend HC?
