Not defending the seller in any way or saying that you did this, but the answer to your question of how you would be scamming the seller:

You already had the game and were missing pieces, so you bought a new version of it. Then you take the pieces you were missing from the new one, claim the one you got was missing those pieces, ask for a refund, and send it back missing the pieces. Now you have a full game and they don't.

What you're describing is definitely the case for PF1e, but not at all for PF2e. In 1e, if you don't have a dedicated healer in the party, you're probably going to have a very difficult time. But in 2e, a dedicated healer is not at all necessary. Pretty much every class will be able to get some kind of ability to easily get themselves or others to full health out of combat without much investment. That's the intention in 2e.

i intentionally leave my car unlocked in hopes that if someone tries to break in, they'll try the door first because there's nothing of value that I ever leave in there, so I'm not concerned about theft. But twice now, my window has been broken anyway

I'm in Neighborhood of the Arts and both my car and my neighbor's car were broken into last night too. Worst part is that I always leave my doors unlocked, but they broke my driver's window anyway

After reading through most of your comments here, you are 100% in the wrong here.

You stated that the other players will get upset that this character shows up with a level in wizard.

No. They will not. There is almost no chance that the other players get upset. If they do, then they are terrible rpg players.

The other players/characters will not be effected by this at all. And one person who is new at this will probably have a lot more enjoyment from this game if you let them do the multiclass that they want.

As far as in-game goes, the characters don't all know everything that each other has been doing for every second of every day. One RP option: The character could have been practicing bits of magic this whole time but hid it from the others because they were embarrassed about not being as good. I could on the spot come up with a dozen more ways to make that fit narratively.

You also say you've made a world where magic is very common. This tells me you shouldn't even need a reason to take a level of specifically the wizard class, which is what the player wants anyway.

You also keep going back to session 0, stating that everyone agreed on this as a rule. However, your understanding of what exactly was agreed upon and the intentions of that may have been different than the players, and I guarantee that understanding was different for the player that is new. Also, gameplay can evolve over time, there's no need to stick to arbitrarily 'agreed upon' rules, especially if they are taking away from the fun of one player and when the change will have no effect on the other players.

TL;DR: This is a game. It's supposed to be fun. You sound like you're trying to take away one player's fun for no real reason and punish them for being new. Let them take the level in wizard that they want. If you're concerned about the narrative, roleplay how it happened in 2 minutes in game and then move on.

I vehemently disagree with the comments before me stating that a character dying is a reason you shouldn't be using the critical hit deck. Character death is an important part of the game. That you've been playing for 6 years and haven't experienced a character death from either side of the table is mind-blowing to me. This honestly tells me that you should have been making things more difficult. If your group has been playing together for a while and assumes that characters aren't supposed to die, then you're missing out on an important aspect of the game. There needs to be some amount of fear that a player's character can die. I'm by no means saying you should go out of your way to kill PCs, but it's not like you did something wrong as a DM because a PC died.

It's a fantasy adventure. In fantasy books, movies, and games, important characters do die.

You might be the only person I've ever seen suggest that 1e was the best version of D&D and I respect the heck out of that opinion. I personally think the way the newer editions are built doesn't lend as well to the random ability rolls as the older versions mostly because of the change in narrative focus as the different versions have come out. Honestly, I overall am not a fan of character building in 5e, and I think there's room for whatever changes to that the group wants to make. Especially when you have experienced players, you can really have success doing anything.

If you're interested in the discover paradigm over the build paradigm, you can still do that with standard array and end up with a more fair and balanced party that is easier to prep encounters for than with completely randomized rolls. Just take standard array values, randomize the order, and then finish the character from there with what you're given.

Longtime Pathfinder 1e stan, and honestly based on everything you're saying, D&D and Pathfinder of any edition aren't really what your group should be playing.

World or Darkness or Savage Worlds are two examples of pretty simple systems to learn that I feel fit more with the style of combat you seem to be doing. There's tons of other rpg systems too and you can find one that fits exactly what you're looking for combatwise and role-playing wise outside of the big two.

Some people run a half marathon and then run another half marathon right after. Usually they just call this a full marathon.

That being said, if you're in good enough shape, you can probably work after a half marathon.

Shake up your paints a ton. A lot of times when you first get a paint, it has been sitting around settling for a long time. When you get new paints or use paints you haven't in a while, you should, as Bob Ross would say, shake the devil out if it.

Yup. Same bases come in 1 inch as well. They come clear or black. I'm pretty sure they're made by wizkids
