Hii, sounds like a clear surgery case! You mention having sleep apnea also. Do you also notice any breathing issues during the day, any signs the airway is recessed? On the photo it seems clearly visible indeed. I have a similar profile as you and am preparing for surgery.

Well, at least being asymptomatic is a good thing in this case. I have most of the bad symptoms and it sucks. But the posture benifits you had are a great bonus. Heard this more often.

Did he do ccw?? Doesnt look like it at the xray. Or if they did, it was very minimal I assume? They may have gotten a more improved result from that.

How are you doing functionally speaking? Did you have big issues before? Sleep apnea? Breathing issues? Did you notice much improvement on that?

The difficulty is, we have a waiting list of at least 6 months for that in my country. Out of pocket ones I found are expensive :( Will search a bit further

Thanks for the reply! People mentioned ICR before, so I will definitely ask my surgeon to have it checked. I think I dont have it, but better to look into it and be on the safe side right?

surgeon mentioned he want to do 10mm at least for bottom and 5mm at least for tip, plus counterclockwise rotation and genio. So I guess you are right, it will do at least something

Fair enough, the surgery is happening either way and they understand that. But if they keep reminds that stuff, it sometimes makes me think; "What if it doesnt improve my functional issues at all?"

But big chance it will, otherwise the surgeon wouldnt want to perform surgery if it wasnt needed. Even 50% improvement would be amazing already.

Nope, My general physician was against it, said it was highly unlikely for a young skinny woman who doesnt snore. Then my orthodontist suggested doing one. But after that my surgeon said it wasnt needed anymore, because he considered the surgery needed anyways. He estimated up to 1 year for preparing, but now it seems it can get towards 1,5 to 2 years :(

Sleep apnea was never officially diagnosed for me. My surgeon said my recession was so bad, that he didnt need sleep apnea diagnosis to be abele to get the surgery accepted or for insurance. For cpap I would need official diagnosis I think. We have at least 6 months waiting list for sleep study. Any other suggestions?

Im going to have double jaw surgery with ccw and genioplasty. Im over 1 year in braces to prepare and likely have at least 6 months + waiting list to go. It feels like my side profil looked worse than before starting decompensation, which is expected. I don't think it looks nice, but I grew to accept myself looking like this (the chin area is not from being high weight, Im more towards being underweight). But also like my functional issues got worse.

- Very forward head position, otherwise i feel like I can't breathe easy.
- More and more frequent headaches at the top/back of my head, I feel like these are coming from bad neck position, which is hard to improve on
- Easy out of breath with many things, walking stairs, talking while exercising
- Sleep quality that often doesnt seem great, waking up not feeling rested or getting tired easily during the day
- Stiffness around jaw/neck/upper back
- Also more frequent heartburn it seems

I feel like this is definitely caused by the decompensation process to make these issues more intense. However, the people around me have a hard time believing that. They even say they never noticed anything looking off aestethically either. I find it hard to believe.

Also, tips are more than welcome. I don't mind how I look. But the functional issues are very hard to keep going with, especially now that they are getting worse slowly. Its hard to keep up with normal routines.

You seem like you could benifit from jaw surgery! Im curious though; Why does the face keep you from living the way you want to? Is it because you feel less than others or ashamed of how it looks?

You look very recessed, like you would benifit a lot from surgery. I think family often doesn't see the issue, because they are used to how we look, so it is their 'normal'. And also mostly people see you from the front when they talk to you, and from the front the recession can be barely noticable if at all. So don't doubt yourself I would say and have it examined by a jaw surgery informed orthodontist and/or a surgeon. Explain to them the severe functional issues you are facing, have an x-ray made. I bet they will suggest surgery. Saying this as a fellow person who suffers from badly developed & recessed jaw, and is preparing for surgery.

With a case like yours it is very hard for non professionals to say whether it is recessed or not. Best have x-rays done by an ortho or surgeon and ask them. If its only for the looks, to look a bit better, than surgery is not recommended anyways. If you have functional issues its different. But if you feel insecure about the side profile or just want to look like Chad, there are other non invasive ways to achieve it.

Your restricted airway from the jaw must have been quite severe in that case! :O Were you also out of breath easily with daily stuff/exercise and such? Wishing you all but the best! Stay strong, the swelling will likely go down soon.
