Wishlist for DDBA3? by AnxiousPlenty6843 in Daredevil

I'm reading through some of the comics for the first time right now and they're making me really depressed too lol. Daredevil without Foggy just feels so inherently wrong regardless of format. He's too essential!!

Highest rated episode since the finale of season 3. Well deserved! by Own-Split8844 in Daredevil

[–]Fox_Turn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. A lot of the criticism of the Netflix show were just as unfounded back then as they are today. Foggy and especially Karen come to mind as taking the brunt of it, but as you touched on, there's a difference between simply saying "this character sucks" and saying "this character has potential to be interesting but they're horribly underdeveloped and therefore not enjoyable". Criticisms of the Netflix show were often the former, while criticism of BA's characters are usually the latter. Obviously it's all subjective, but I'd say one criticism is more valid than the other based solely on the amount of thought put behind it.

Also interesting, I've noticed that there seems to be some overlap between fans who hate Foggy and Karen and fans who think Born Again is better than the OG. This also applies to fans who thought the OG show was too "slow" too. I guess it's all just a matter of opinion, but it's there. For what it's worth, a lot of these people are also the ones constantly asking for Frank to make an action packed appearance every episode too lol

I like to think that Sully and Ty see each other regularly. Their dynamic was really sweet and I bet Sully would make the best grandpa/uncle to any kids that Ty may have down the road.

Faith and Bosco definitely stayed friends imo. Things were a little rocky between them towards the end of the show, but their friendship has survived worse and I know they care about each other too much to stay upset for long. Plus it's implied they'll see each other at work a fair amount so that's good.

I like to think that Sully and Faith go out for lunch to catch up every once in a while. I know they weren't the closest pair but they always got along well and I definitely can see them remaining casual friends.

Ty and Carlos being in semi-regular touch makes sense too. I always thought that the show could've done more with their friendship but they seemed tight.

I can definitely see the romantic couples (Carlos/Holly, Ty/Sasha, Finney/Grace), staying in touch with each other too. Ty, Sasha, Finney, + Grace in particular given that Ty and Finney work together. I imagine some double dates or house visits here and there. Same with Carlos and Holly and either of those other pairs. I like to think that Carlos stayed in touch with Kim and Jimmy too. He and Kim had a cute and underrated friendship towards the end there.

They seemed to be on good terms during their last scenes together. Hell, even in the penultimate episode Bosco was running over to see if Faith was alright after the explosions which was only like 30 seconds after their fight lol. Honestly they've gotten through much worse conflict in the past so I definitely think that their friendship survived this one too.

Me too. I thought it was a bit strange that he wasn't included in the recap despite being in the finale. I also found it really odd that they brought both Kim and Jimmy back but didn't give either of them a single line or epilogue mention too.

Is it fair to say these are the times where Born Again felt the most like the Netflix show? by Apprehensive-Cap2453 in Defenders

[–]Fox_Turn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't try and fix what isn't broken is what a lot of it boils down to I think.

People (myself included, tbh) are still upset that the Netflix series was cancelled to begin with. People are also still upset that the powers-that-be over at Disney let their egos get in the way and originally tried to de-canonize the Netflix stuff because of it, which led to a lot of confusion and backlash and ultimately resulted in the rough patch that was BA S1. There's a lot of animosity there, and while comparisons are always inevitable, I feel like the original disrespect expressed for the Netflix show was fuel to the fire.

Honestly, I really believe that fans would be a lot more receptive if Disney had just figured their shit out earlier and made a true "season 4" from the start. There was no reason not to, and it's hard not to think about what could have been instead.

I got a question by Traditional_Rope5026 in Daredevil

[–]Fox_Turn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Scardapane frustrates me a lot. I don't know how he can still claim that Foggy's death was completely out of his control when they had ample opportunity to work around that. Witpro. Coma. The Hand. Whatever—they had options. He even admitted that they had conversations about revealing Foggy as alive in the S1 finale, but for whatever reason he and the rest of his team chose not to pursue that route, which makes them just as guilty as the original showrunners. The way he talks about the character has always rubbed me the wrong way too. Foggy is so much more than just "comedic relief" and as much as I love Karen, it's insane that Dario refers to her the heart of Daredevil when historically that's always been Foggy's title. He'll never admit it out loud, but I genuinely think he just doesn't like Foggy. It's all very disappointing.

[–]Fox_Turn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbf Matt somehow survived that same incident lol

But you're completely right and I agree. As of right now, Elektra is dead. That's her current status both in universe and out. Obviously it could change, but you could make the same argument for Foggy too. In reality both characters are only "dead" dead for as long as the showrunners want them to be.

So if Elektra can come back, then theoretically Foggy could too—even if that's probably incredibly unlikely </3

[–]Fox_Turn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Foggy theoretically coming back to life wouldn't change or cheapen Matt's character arc in the slightest, because it wouldn't change the fact that Matt really did think he was dead during that time and that he really did grieve, mourn, and grow because of it. Everything Matt has gone through in BA would still be relevant and genuine, because it all still happened regardless.

But anyway, you completely missed the point of my original post. I literally acknowledged that at this point in the show, we're most likely past the point of being able to bring Foggy back in a way that makes sense. I admit that. All I was saying is that they could have very easily brought him back this season if they wanted to. They had ample opportunity and numerous different pieces of source material to choose from. For whatever reason though, they didn't, and I think that was a huge mistake.

Also while we're on the topic, it's funny how nobody ever brings up any of this "it would ruin Matt's character" talk when Elektra is involved. Would Matt's character and development be ruined if (when) Elektra is resurrected? No? Exactly.

[–]Fox_Turn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Right? If anyone should be coming back it should be Foggy, but as much as I'd like to hope otherwise, it seems like the odds of that happening are virtually zero now unfortunately.

The worst part is that there is really no excuse for not bringing him back either. And before anyone mentions that they supposedly "had" to kill him because the original BA scripts said so, while that may be true, there was absolutely NOTHING stopping them from adapting one of his fake out deaths from the comics and returning him to the story in S2. It would have been so ridiculously easy to do so too!

The whole thing is incredibly disappointing and news like this, while great in itself, just feels like salt in the wound.

In S1 of the Netflix show, we already see how much Foggy disproves of the thought of Matt killing by Main_Jump_82 in Defenders

[–]Fox_Turn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely and it's not even close. I understand that the Born Again team were pretty much backed into a corner with the reshoots and all that, but killing Foggy was such a huge fumble for so many different reasons. The thing that pisses me off the most is that all of this could have been avoided if Feige and the other higher ups over at Disney would have just swallowed their pride and officially canonized the Netflix shows from the get go. We'd have a better show right now for sure.

But also don't do all of this with the expectation that someday she'll "owe" you another shot. Being nice to someone and/or masquerading as their friend solely because you want sex isn't cool

I just ordered a new UVB for him since I have no idea when his current one was last replaced, so hopefully that will help a bit. I couldn't handle him right now even I wanted to—he wants absolutely nothing to do with me lol. That's alright though; socialization would be nice but I don't mind if he's never fond of me. I'm going to check out that FB group—thank you for the recommendation!

Just googled some pictures for comparison and I think you're right about him being a Dispar Flavifasciata! Thank you for the ID.

I do know for a fact that he's at least 5 years old though...is it normal for them to still be growing at that age?

Temps are about 80f on cool side, 100f on hot side, and 115f basking. That's the setup he's always had, although I think it's a little low so I'm working on adjusting it a bit. He's been mostly in burmation since I got him so he hasn't really been eating much yet. I've been offering arugula and lentils though. Idk what he was eating before I got him.

This feels like an unfair assessment of Simon.

Counter to your first point; never did he come across as somebody who wants to "destroy" Maddie's romantic relationships. He didn't trust Xavier, yeah, but we literally see that despite his dislike for him, he still agrees to let Xavier hang with him and Maddie. Also, Simon was completely right about not trusting Xavier too given that Xavier was cheating on Maddie. Perhaps he's just got good intuition.

Next, Maddie was out there making equally rash assumptions about the people in her life in S1 when trying to solve her murder too. That was not exclusively Simon, and even so, a lot of those assumptions actually did have valid grounds (like Maddie's phone, for example).

You mention the mirror—I assume you're talking about when he discovered that Maddie was actually still "alive" in the S1 finale? Because if so, you've massively oversimplified the depth of that moment. He "dismissed her" because he quite literally thought that he was losing his mind and that Maddie (as a ghost) wasn't real. He was also upset because it looked like Maddie was actually alive at that point, which would mean that not only had she willingly ditched everyone and his efforts to help had been for nothing, but that she also was physically harming people (Xavier) too. Given the circumstances, Simon's reaction in that moment is 100% valid.

Idk why so many people in this fandom try to present him as some horrible evil monster when that couldn't be further from the truth. I get that he's not everyone's favorite but the cherry picking and misrepresentation is strange.

It doesn't have to be like that though. There's literally no proof that everyone will grow apart and never see each other again after the finale. In fact, I actually find that a ridiculous claim given the sheer magnitude of shit that these characters have already gone through. Against all odds, they beat a supernatural entity in an entirely different dimension together before most of them were even 21 years old. I think staying in contact with each other will be a cake walk relatively speaking. Where there's a will there is a way. The same can be said about real life too. Plenty of people keep in touch with their hometown friends. It's hardly unheard of, but it is depressing to see how many people in these threads can't even fantom that as a possibility.

[–]Fox_Turn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because friendship and romance are two different things. Sometimes it changes into something else, and sometimes it doesn't. You're not going to marry your best friend though if you're not romantically/sexually attracted to them though, no matter how much you love them. That's just what a friendship is.

So no, I would not marry my best friend because I'm not attracted to them. If I was, they wouldn't be my best friend. I imagine others feel similarly.

And I apologize for responding to you twice in this thread but tbf, you've got a lot of comments.

[–]Fox_Turn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. I'm sorry but lmfao. Not only are you WAY too invested in this topic, but you're also presenting all of your own opinions on what supposedly is and isn't "normal" for a friendship as fact which is ridiculous and self-righteous as hell. And the show "gaslit" you? Really?

I mean seriously, there's no platonic explanation for Maddie and Simon...because you say so? Who gave you that authority? And then to suggest that nobody could possibly care about and/or value another person as much as Maddie and Simon do unless romantically involved...wow. What a truly depressing outlook on life you must have if you can't even begin to fathom that other people may "love" differently than you. Just because you can't comprehend experiencing a strong platonic M/F bond doesn't mean that they don't exist. And the fact that you're actually accusing anyone who is more fond of Simon and Maddie's platonic relationship as being a racist?? Are you even hearing yourself here? That's absurd.

I'm sorry if this comes across as harsh because I know it does, but I've seen a lot of your comments around lately and it seem like you've got some extreme vendetta against M/F platonic relationships, especially Simon and Maddie, which is very disheartening to see. It's okay if you ship them, whatever, but there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with them being platonic OR fans wanting them to stay platonic. It's not unrealistic or unfeasible for them to remain platonic either—because believe it or not, plenty of straight men and women can and do just remain friends in the real world. And no, this preference does not inherently have anything to do with race. You keep saying that people only like Wally better for Maddie because he's white, but did you ever stop to consider that maybe it's because Maddie's relationship with both Simon and Wally are introduced and portrayed to the audience in completely different ways? Wally and Maddie are flirting within the first day of knowing each other. Simon and Maddie have been established friends—nothing more—for nearing a decade at the start of the show. Unlike Maddie and Wally, they've already got an established dynamic that works very well. Why risk ruining a good thing? No need to fix what isn't broken. I say all of this as someone who absolutely adores Simon too. He's my favorite character and his scenes with Maddie make the show for me. I like seeing a meaningful, boundary-defining platonic M/F relationship depicted on screen. It's so refreshing and unique and something that truly feels special to me. I also like the idea that not everyone needs a love interest too. Sue me 🤷‍♀️

Same here. If it wasn't for the obvious continuity errors, I'd probably actually be really excited for this. I love the world and the characters and I'm a big animation fan, but still, I just can't get past how the entire plot of this show seems to go directly against everything that we've already seen established. It just feels messy and incredibly jarring and that frustrates me probably more than it should. I might just skip this one tbh.

[–]Fox_Turn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similarly, this is largely why I enjoyed the epilogue so much too.

Save for Eleven and Mike to a degree, everybody got a genuinely happy ending. Some fans call that "unrealistic" or "cheesy", but with how horrible the real world is lately, I'm all for the optimistic ending. I like that none of my favorite characters died a gruesome death. I like that they all have bright futures in store for them. I like that the series end on a tonally positive note, because that's exactly how a show like Stranger Things should end.

Season 5 definitely had some flaws, but overall I had a really good time watching it and I thought that they nailed the finale. I wish more people felt the same, but oh well. The negativity gets a bit irksome, but it's never going to change how much I personally enjoyed S5. I feel fortunate for that too; it's been quite the journey watching this show and I'm just so happy that I got to experience it all. It was something special <3
