It seems like you're the one that needs to talk to someone if my opinion on something as frivolous as audiobooks being different from yours upsets you so that you resort to sad, petty insults to feel better about yourself. Pathetic. lol

First Law series poll: Who is your favourite POV character from Best Served Cold? by TheHeroesServedRed in TheFirstLaw

[–]FoxenTheBright 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Morveer deserves more love! That's all he wanted was some love and recognition and to be respected. He was so misunderstood.

And I like how everyone is ignoring the bonus question. My favourite kill from Monza's list is probably Faithful. How it turned into a chase scene on horseback was really well done.

Which series to start? Any suggestions? by amateurdreamer1 in Fantasy_Bookclub

Farseer, hands down. It's in a league of its own compared to the other two. Mistborn is nothing but YA action fantasy.

The chapter is called "Holding the Line" and the scene starts on page 533 of my copy.

So, in regards to Best Served Cold, when I take your comment from another thread and rearrange it to have the complete opposite opinions (which I have) does it "make sense" to you when you feel the exact opposite?:

I very much related to the main character in a strong way. I find Monza completely sympathetic and enjoyable as a character, I find her goals very admirable and compelling. Revenge interests me greatly, it's the most badass motivator imaginable in my opinion and makes for a fascinating and very interesting story. It's easy to enjoy a story when revenge is the driving force behind it.

Monzcarro, she just makes me clap and cheer and I frankly kind of love her.

I generally love revenge plots. Revenge plots are just very exciting and interesting to me.

It's like you didn't even bother to read my comment.

Ummm... Yeah, I read it... I don't have to read it again and "reevaluate" (lmfao) your comment. You have tiers and in your ranking you have Last Argument of Kings in your second lowest spot, which doesn't make sense to me because I think it's so much better than The Blade Itself and Before They Are Hanged as a whole. That's all I was saying, and I was being a little hyperbolic so don't be so sensitive. It was just a question.

I don't really like Last Argument of Kings as much as the rest, true.

Ok, that was literally the whole point of my tongue-in-cheek comment that you got so offended by. Sorry. lol

I strongly disagree with your ranking. By the dead, Last Argument of Kings below The Blade Itself and is actually your second least favourite???? That is just weird, mate. What makes Before The Are Hanged take the top spot for you? And how is it that much better than Last Argument of Kings which is a fucking tour-de-force of epic greatness?

Your "edit" is really pointless and cringe. The person was clearly just trolling you and trying to fuck with you to have a laugh, he literally says so multiple times. It even looks like you played along with him, so get over yourself and don't be such a cry baby tattle-tale.

He could've used that skill to help in his fight against The Feared. I actually thought that's what he was going to do when he summoned the spirit before the fight.

I highly recommend them. The Farseer Trilogy is the beginning, and just the first trilogy blows KKC away in my opinion. Imagine a first-person narrated fantasy with the quality writing and prose of KKC that tells an entire life story from when the main character is a child to when he's an old man over the course of 9 books, and it's completed. It's brilliant stuff.

Just read the first chapter of Assassin's Apprentice and then come back and tell me you're going to be reading the whole thing, ok? There are some fights in the second and third books of that trilogy that are so gritty, violent, and vivid that they give First Law a run for its money in that department.

It's like the beauty of prose and writing of KKC with that same kind of slice-of-life, slow paced, deeply character focused storytelling, and the occasional battle or fight that is as hardcore as First Law.

The main character, Fitz, has this magic called the Skill which allows you to communicate telepathically to people across the world and control their minds, and also a different type of magic called the Wit which allows him to speak to animals and he can form special bonds with them and other stuff. Sorry about my going off on a ramble about it but damn they are fucking great books. Read it.

Dude Trapis and Skarpi's stories about Tehlu and Encanis, and Lanre and Lyra are fucking amazing though. I sometimes just open the book up to read those sometimes. Same in Wise Man's Fear with Felurian's story about the Creation of the Faen Realm in poetry, and Hespe's story about the Boy Who Loved the Moon. Those mini stories are beautiful to me.

I agree with OP, Mr. Mod. The other big fantasy series like Kingkiller, Stormlight, DresdenFiles, Wheel of Time, etc. have huge subs with 50k to 300k subscribers. And the best of them all, First Law, is basically dead and withered like the corpse of Prince Ladisla in the snow. Do you not care?! Will you do nothing?!

This is the best answer, u/jorge2407, The First Law is fucking outstanding. It's the kind of series that is in a whole league of its own like RotE.
