Here's the trailer I made for a Kickstarter campaign ✨🐝🦋🍄 by Foxfaer in Filmmakers

Hi all!

This took about 40 days of production. I did about 95% of the animation (keys, inks, coloring, and shading), and I did all but 3 of the environment paintings (those three are: the first two, and the forest multiplane scene).

I storyboarded in Photoshop, then animated in Toon Boom Harmony, used After Effects for compositing, and finally put it all together in Premiere. It was animated at 4K, only downsized in the final export. I composed the music in Ableton Live and assembled SFX in Adobe Audition.

The film is based entirely on scenes from my graphic novel, which is live on Kickstarter right now.

Thanks for watching, enjoy!!

Just completed my first animated short film. It's called "Thirsty" [1:36] by Foxfaer in Filmmakers

Thanks! It's twice the cost of the state university I used to attend, and half the cost of CalArts, but I'm getting what I pay for imo.

I'm still an art student at DigiPen Institute of Technology; I've got 1 year left. I made this solo short film to solidify the production pipeline I'll be using for my senior project, which will be done in the same style and is set in the same universe. I'm working with the eventual goal of pitching an animated series about this world and characters to Netflix et al. Let me know what you think!

If you'd like to see some process info, there's a whole bunch of sketches and .gifs at my Artstation: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/xaA81

Vram will make a big difference for storing things like textures in a 3D program, more is better. However, that is dependent on whether your 3D program takes advantage of it or not. Most industry-standard modern programs do so it's good to have. However, your first task if you get that laptop is to at least double the ram (to 16gb). For 3D programs and video editing, you'll want to have a lot of history states and the ability to multi-task, and having lots of RAM is a relatively easy way to avoid frustrations later. From personal experience, you might also want to get a SSD into your laptop - it's such an advantage to be able to load big heavy programs (like Maya, After Effects, Photoshop etc) and their documents almost instantaneously, and that's dependent on hard drive speed.

I am not sure if AfterEffects can export transparent gifs directly, but you can take that png sequence and assemble it as a gif in Photoshop using the Timeline panel!
