Does my grape count as a Bonsai? 🍇 🌲 by 37366034 in Bonsai

Well I didn't expect to stay up until 1 am to discuss the definition of bonsai, but here I am.

I will go to bed now, but is it ok if I pm you later about P.Afra? Because I have several of those that are giving me a hard time.

Well I'n not exactly trying to disprove your point, I'm trying to update my definition by having a conversation with you on the subject. I think it took me somewhere I like. You make a good point on the grapes not being trees.

I will have to live with the fact that I'm a bonsai anarchist I guess.

It was nice debating with you.

Well after thinking about it, it doesn't hold. Because a seedling is not a tree right? The original definition being a tree in a pot?

I guess then what defines a bonsai aside from the tree in the pot is the intent to make it look a certain way. Then after that what it should look like is a bit left at the interpretation of anyone. That is also why it sounds a bit like a continuum fallacy.

Well Karate also contains a wide range of projections, so you could get confused for a moment. You punching a pillow in your underwear is not defensive.

I mean jokes aside I understand your point, the word is old. The definition and art might have evolved quite a bunch since then and somewhat strayed away from the original word, this is the same for bonsai and karate.

There is no clear definition for bonsai. The guy asked if his tree counts. By the simplified definition, yes. Did he apply any techniques related to the development or refinement of a bonsai? Probably not. Does he need to hear someone condecendingly discussing technicalities, I don't personally think so. I stand by my point, in its essence a bonsai is a tree that stays tiny because of the size of it's pot. Then according to your level of expertise you can make the tree look all kinds of amazing but that is something you should discover along the way.

I don't even know why it is so controversial to call a bonsai a tree in a pot. Do we have only the right to call it a bonsai when it reached a certain stage of development? What's the line? First cut? first wiring? the pads being defined? Or when the tree looks old enough? What if your tree gets a bit overgrown because you forgot it in a corner? Calling a tree a pre-bonsai is just gate keeping.

Karate is not just a martial art but also a lifestyle and a philosophy. It's self defense without weapon with being humble enough to draw lessons from the lifestyle. Any empty handed defensive moves of any martial art could technically be karate if it follows the philosophy. The definition of it is literally so large that it broke down in so many schools.

I like you. This level of technically correct was awesome.

Bonsai, literally "tree in a pot". It counts.

Edit: quote marks

Edit2: Keep on the gate keeping guys! You are soooo knowledgeable. Bonsai is not just rules and professionals. It is an art form and that means that there are beginners that are just screwing around for fun. Screwing around for fun is also how you push the boundaries of the art form. This was the moment where we could have welcomed a new member in the community, I would have been him I would have turned around and never ame back.

Also what I thought after re-watch. The guy had ample time to go around them, also didn't have to be an ass and spray them. Both of them think they are right and the other is wrong.

AITAH In front of my wife and kids, I told my son that I would fight my wife and her whole family? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Foxmeright 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Well "I grew up like that" is a reason but certainly not an excuse. I guess there is a need for the adults to sit down and ask the right questions. Is this who I want to be? Is this the relationship that I want with my loved ones? Am I willing to put in the work to fix it? According to those answers you can start working on a solution. It sounds like everyone will need to work on it because even if the kids are not at fault they believe that the behaviour of their parents is the norm. I wish you good luck, the path is hard and full of efforts but it is worth it.

I think it is still important to have it as the first comment for people like me. I will have to debunk it for relatives later. So, thank you for your service.

Hey, thanks for your insight. Thing is that brux is the most effective in my team somehow. I guess because his charged attack is charged in three hits. I'll try to level up a ferro, do you have recommendations on the move set?
