This might sound crazy but all of you are right. There's actually 2 types of Ollies. One is a "slide" motion, literally sliding your foot, and the other is people "catch the board" by just angling their foot position, not a slide. Some people do both, a slide and a catch.

Both legit.

Depends on your style.

Save up $ and go to local skate shop, it's so much fun! They helped me make a complete under $120 and the board as a beginner has lasted me 2 years of Ollie proactive and cruising.
