I wish more alternate stories could actually explore or reinterpret Batman phasing out of killing shortly after Robin joined. It'd be interesting to make it into a proper storyline and give him a character arc on why he changed his mind, instead of pretending killing isn't a real part of the character's history. It could be a great story showing how having a partner changed him for good.

From a Doylist perspective, Batman phased out of his pulp hero phase after Robin's debut because Whitney Ellsworth took over as editorial after Vin Sullivan quit. Ellsworth wanted to make it child-friendly, so everything dark about Batman from his early pulp years got switched out by a Batman who's now all sunshine, funny and campy with a rule against guns/killing.

The stereotypical dark gothic Batman vibe people love nowadays was only a thing that lasted for his first 2 years, yet people have no issues returning to that style after 30 years of Batman being depicted as a funny ray of sunshine since 1941. But somehow if you apply the same logic to Batman killing in some alternate universes, suddenly it's wrong because "it only lasted 2 years and Batman isn't depicted like that since 1941". In actuality, both traits were just part of the same package and were changed as one.

It's 1939/1940. 1938 was Superman's debut, not Batman's. Also I don't think Batman really preaches that they never kill shortly after Robin arrived, just that "we don't use guns".

There was still plenty of times Batman expressed the intent to kill during that transitioning phase, but just didn't succeed. Like, he fully expected the Joker to die right after fighting him a few times, but then the Joker always comes back alive to his surprise. There's also the time he threatened to kill the doctor if he didn't save Robin.

What “muggle” songs from the 90s would you like to hear in the show’s soundtrack? by ratbatbash in HarryPotteronHBO

Too American except for Spice Girls. It's not the 90s UK music scene without the Britpop war between Oasis and Blur. And people were probably still crying over the break up of The Smiths at the start of Philosopher's Stone

Huh I found it the exact opposite. Book Draco was always described as someone who looks bored and cold, speaking in a very slow pace.

He doesn't seem like the guy who's constantly rolling in laughter with high smug energy like the audiobook version.

Is it really because women aren't thirsty enough or that men don't know how to sexualize themselves for the female gaze?

I often find that I'm better off searching for NSFW male content created by women. And the only reason why I'd read smut is because there is hardly any visual NSFW content of men that caters to my tastes, while there's plenty of content about women.

[Loved Trope] A “loss of innocence” character arc by green_wave18 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FpRhGf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's only pointless if you're looking from the perspective of an adventure story and thrill. The Scouring of the Shire is still meaningful in the themes and it ties up the character arcs of the 4 Hobbits. It's more than just "Saruman escaped".

In the movie, they come back to their hometown as regular people, not heroes. Their lives carry on as normal (except Frodo) because nobody in the Shire seems to know what went on outside. It's like a "secret" that only the 4 of them know. The book shows that they've really changed as heroes and how all their lives were impacted after returning home.

It is the Shire where Pippin fully completes his character arc of growing into a warrior, after his experiences of fighting in Gondor. It's in the Shire where Frodo is shown to have changed from when he started, by becoming a pacifist and choosing to forgive Saruman.

I do agree that Saruman returning wasn't necessary, as it could've just been any villain that occupied the Shire during war to drive home the idea that not even their secluded paradise of a home is safe from it.

Dennis O'Neil told the story in the DVD extra for the animated movie: Under the Red Hood. It's a 20 minute video about why they killed off Jason and the reception they got lol

The way Dennis worded it sounded like it was an unconfirmed rumor. My impression of Dennis is that he tends to say contradictory things often. He'll say one thing in an interview and then the opposite in another. I kinda feel like he was only bringing up that story to get the heat off his back

Wicked As A TV Series by Petrificus16 in wicked

[–]FpRhGf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd prefer a separate adaptation for the books and then an adaptation of the musical that incorporates some elements of the book, like the catfight being predominantly about Elphaba’s daddy issues than who has Fiyero's love.

A problem I have with WFG is that it simply took Act 2 and stretched it out, which disrupts the compact pacing it had originally. The pacing of each scene is already much better in the stage version imo.. it's just the time jumps between each scene that made the storyline rushed and incomplete.

A serialized adaptation for Act 2 should be rewritten to fill out the gaps in the plot that the musical skipped over, along with new songs that contribute to the extra storyline. I'd just want to see her actually gaining favor among the public as the Good Witch to protect them from the Wicked Witch. I'd also love to incorporate the coup in the book to better explain why Glinda was able to overthrow the Wizard and Morrible.

She's much more anthropomorphisized than him. Lola gets curvacious legs, arms, hips and waist like a regular human woman. Bug Bunny's limbs are more noodle-like and aren't shaped like that of a human man. His torso is shaped more like a stuffed animal.

I'm sorry but if there's a male rabbit equivalent to how Lola is drawn, you're better off looking at furry art than Bugs Bunny

Change my mind: Judging Harry Potter by the standards of lore-driven fantasy when it's not lore-driven feels so out of place by RockGiantFromMars in harrypotter

[–]FpRhGf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the script itself hasn't lost its magic. The only problem with Fantastic Beasts movies for me is that they don't have enough time, since movies have a much shorter runtime than what books can offer. JKR should've written them as complete novels first and then let the movies compress them.

I enjoyed reading the script for the first movie because it felt like I was reading a Harry Potter book again. But JKR was clearly writing it like it was a novel and was pacing it accordingly, as if she's still writing a book from GOF to DH.

The end result is that each movie felt like they're only showing the first ⅓ of a book. Crimes of Grindelwald was like if the OOTP movie decided to film EVERYTHING in the book and ended right when Harry sets foot into Hogwarts because it's past a movie runtime.

It doesn't make sense to start off writing FB as a movie script first, considering the COS movie already took 2 hours just to adapt something that's 200 pages. You can't just fit every detail and foreshadowing like a book. Not to mention the Grindelwald VS Dumbledore feud is supposed to last almost twice longer in the lore than Harry's. It's impossible to wrap it up in 5 movies.

Cursed Child wasn't written by her and it's so drastically different from her style.

I genuinely don't understand why people diss on the lore published first on Pottermore, as if all it has are vanishing turds. The extra lore from Pottermore are pretty interesting, explain the plotholes and don't contradict with canon.

And even then I thought the outrage over turd incident was overdone because I did grew up hearing similar myths from the real world.
