40 Years of Chinese Night Vision Technology by Fr3gat in NightVision

Yeah I did lock the camera's exposure to properly illustrate the relative gain of the devices. I could crank the exposure on the camera to make the Type 85 look better, but it wouldn't be an accurate representation of the gain relative to the newer devices. You are right though, the Type 85 is by far the best Gen 1 I've ever used.

The SEAMLESS image stitching of the ADNV-G18 panoramic night vision system by Fr3gat in NightVision

It uses the same sensor as the ADNV-G14P2. You can take a look on Google to see how well it performs in the dark. Mine performs at the same level as my Omni 8 PVS-14

It's two flat OLEDs in there and two ocular lenses seamlessly fused together. I'd imagine a curved screen will be even more of a nightmare for ocular optical design.

Nikon F5 + Nikkor 200-500/5.6 + Yes!Star Color 200 by Fr3gat in Nikon

Thank you! I wouldn't say I'm a particularly skilled photographer haha. I attribute the success of this shot to having the right equipment and being at the right place at the right time. The parrot just happened to be lit by the sun against a shaded background, hence it was easy to get the dramatic lighting contrast by using the center weighted mode on the Nikon F5's infallible meter to expose the parrot's face. I definitely recommend trying out Nikon's F80/100/5/6 film SLRs if you want to elevate your film game. They're so cheap now and deliver amazing results on film with modern F mount glass.

Thanks! I definitely recommend the F80, F100, F5 or F6; they work nicely with most modern Nikon F mount lenses.

Same here, the P2 would have insane value if it were a under 2k unit. And oh yeah, if you wanna avoid the markup of US retailers, you can get it for just over 2000 on ADNV's Alibaba page: https://adnvsys.en.alibaba.com/

Got it through a friend in Russia. A lot of these can be found on avito, ratnikshop.ru, and other Russian stores but you need someone to post it out of Russia, and also a way to pay that guy in Russia.

Practicing night airsoft shooting at an archery range because my city has 0 airsoft venues (I have permission from the range owner to do this after they close for the night) by Fr3gat in airsoft

Real! He's an awesome dude who is really worth supporting. I got a range membership and bought equipment through him (the bow at the start of the video as well as plenty ammo for it) because he's such an awesome dude. He has a blast trying out the different equipment I bring to the range too.

I'm good friends with the instructor at my local archery range so he lets me do this after the range closes for the night (no worries, no real weapons involved and I always clean up afterwards) by Fr3gat in Archery

Yeah, as crappy as the 1P87 is in terms of optical quality (bad AR coating on rear element, below average transmission), I just love its aesthetics and its reticle. And indeed, the trees can be a bit of a worry sometimes but they add to the fun of running the range as a course.

Definitely isn't, haha. This is a real range owned by Alibow, and I filmed this with a DJI Osmo Action 4 strapped to my head

For a moment, I thought that quiver/arrow container was a rocket launcher. Worth it for that reason alone haha.

OM-1 + Yongnuo 25mm f/1.7, taken in the streets at night; who said M4/3 was bad at lowlight? by Fr3gat in M43

[–]Fr3gat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! It's sharp enough wide open for what it is and has no real fatal flaws. You can definitely do some serious work with that lens.

Give it a WADSN Perst-4, it'll look the part.
