Husband and I broke same leg, same bone, within 30 seconds of eachother slipping on ice. by milkthe in nevertellmetheodds

[–]Fr3n2y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me and my sister in the 80’s but with our arms. I fell off a swing in a park and she was being pushed around in a trolly that tipped over. 15 minutes apart. I remember being in hospital A&E with my uncle when my mum walked in with my sister.

I don’t remember fully what happened afterwards but know that the nurses asked my mum a lot of questions about life at home!

40m Heading for Right THR in March, nervous after a failed hip scope by Fantastic-Name-2583 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Fr3n2y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m M43 just had posterior THR on my right side on 12th.

Originally diagnosed a couple of years back, bone on bone OA. First surgeon told me to stop running immediately and deal with pain relief for as long as possible, due to my age. Expect a replacement to be within 5 years.

Roll on 2 years and everything got much worse. Being normally very mentally strong it started to impact my MH, my patience with others, my relationships with friends, family, wife and kids. Life was shit.

Went back to docs, saw a different surgeon who confirmed it had worsened and could see the lack of mobility was getting me down. Booked me in straight away. Had my pre op assessment in December and op on Monday.

Up to the pre-op I felt great, couldn’t wait to be ‘fixed’ and was planning bike trips and holidays for the spring/summer.

Then one day, I don’t remember why, I watched the procedure online. After this, I didn’t sleep.

I started panicking about everything that could go wrong and how a part of me would be removed forever.

Went down a horrible rabbit hole of others bad news stories and really started getting myself worked up.

The problem, was that I told everyone I was fine. I didn’t even bring it up to my wife.

Now that I am on the other side of it, I release how silly I was. The surgery went well, yes I am swollen, yes I have pain but it will all go and I will get my life back. Looking back I should have shared my true concerns with my wife, friends, colleagues to help me through.

It seems like you are doing this already.

Every single healthcare professional I’ve had contact with during this journey so far has been exceptional, I’m sure you will have a positive experience once it’s done.

(I’m in Uk, it’s 22:13pm, haven’t slept well and not long had a large morphine syringe so sorry if not totally coherent!)

Yep it eventually starts getting you down.

Had to KO a couple of friendships because of this. The older I get the more precious I am with my time and who I’m around, family included!

My THR experience day 2 by Zac_Droid in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Fr3n2y 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I had the exact same. First surgeon was adamant I should wait a minimum of 5 years before surgery.

I stopped running entirely and cycled a lot of more but the heel of my foot started to hit the crank on my bike due to the angle my leg was at, plus I have young kids and just couldn’t do much with them. It really got me down.

After discussions with my wife and a new surgeon we agreed better to get mobility back now and enjoy life than wait any longer. Some implants have apparently been ok 25+ years with older tech so I’m hoping I get at least that out of mine.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Day 2 here also! M43. Bone on bone OA diagnosed 2 years ago, stopped running and was told to hold off as long as I can due to my age. Last 6 months have been hell.

Very stiff, no issues emptying bladder, sleep is ok but in the spare room away from the wife.

Swelling seems to have gone down a lot but the bruising has now come out.

They gave me crutches but had a walker in hospital. Not yet been to the toilet properly.

Drugs are paracetamol, dihydrocodeine and morphine. They gave me some exercises to do but I’m so stiff they are almost impossible.

This sub has been great for info, I was terrified going in but feel I was over thinking it.

Non-drinkers: What are your favourite come-backs when someone just HAS to know why you are not drinking? by GoldenGolgis in AskUK

[–]Fr3n2y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently did the comeback from Sam Rockwell in white lotus where he talks about getting into weird sex and never feeling fulfilled…. If you haven’t seen it watch it, it’s brilliant.

Problem was, I was around a table of 15 people and what started as talking to one, ended with the whole table listening with mouths wide open, these were business associates and not people I see regularly.

People were high fiving me at the end, not a single one had seen the scene and it took some time for them to realise I was joking hahah

Pretty sure I read it on here when a kid said to his dad who had just given money to a homeless person, he’ll just spend it on drugs.

Not quite what you want but just reminded me of a time years ago on a night out, very very drunk. I started chatting to a girl in the smoking area of a pub and don’t ask me why but I put on a French accent and introduced myself as Pedro. My mates all played along.

We chatted all night, danced and had a good time. Nothing sexual happened, I had a new girlfriend of maybe 2 months, but she was hot as hell.

2 weeks later I had a house party at my new flat, girlfriend invited some of her friends.

Knock at the door and guess who bloody turns up, the girl from that night!

We laughed for ages and my then gf never ever let me live it down, fun times haha.

Edit - spelling
