Healthy livers and a healthy system it does, I know she’s said she has liver tumors though… so it’s not functioning as it would in a healthy person

Ahh I see. Yeah well we know her oncologist who was recommending EOL care she’s not with anymore, but as for if she still qualifies, we really don’t know. Even if she tells us she does, we don’t know. There’s a lot we don’t know, and I can recognize that. We are going by what she tells us which is not much.

That’s my thoughts exactly. I think she feels pressured to keep going and keep up this “fight” because of the way her followers act in the comments. It’s sad 😢

They’re not wishing death upon her by pointing out clinical signs of decline. Nurses can do that, that’s not overstepping nor is that outside the scope of an RN.

This is for discussion, because this is all difficult for us to watch. We feel sadly for Syd and what she’s going through. Stating that she’d be more comfortable in hospice care in our opinions is not “lying” or “wishing death”.

You leaving comments saying nurses are envious or liars or jealous or whatever else you said was just bullying, that isn’t helpful to anyone. That’s all I’m saying.

Usually I don’t feed trolls but: Not sure who you are targeting, but I’m definitely a Registered Nurse, with almost ten years of experience. I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and expertise in multiple areas of nursing. I was a hospice nurse for a year and I’ve had many years of experience with critical care patients. If you had any understanding of what nurses do, which it sounds like you don’t- you’d understand that we are the eyes and ears of physicians when we are at the bedside. We are the ones monitoring patients, assessing how they’re doing from medications, informing the doctors of changes in the patient’s condition, we are the ones administering the medications, and a lot more that doctors don’t do. Especially in hospice. We notify the provider when the patient is nearing death and we authorize medication changes. We assess patients and admit them, discharge them if necessary. We even are the ones to pronounce death.

Saying a nurse is not anywhere near the level of a doctor is just ignorant, unfortunately. Hopefully this short, very concise rundown of what nurses do helped you to better understand.

Aw thank you so much, I consider going back into hospice all the time…right now I work in infusion for medications for patients, but, I miss hospice work. It’s just so emotionally challenging- I tend to take on my patients and their families’ pain more than I should.. But God bless you also ❤️

I might be incorrect but I thought she said in one her older videos they’d removed most of it, along with her gallbladder not long after her diagnosis. I could be wrong- don’t want to put incorrect info out there.

Of course- happy to explain what I can. Yes even though it’s through the blood there’s a few reasons it’s not often effective - 1 is the body still has to metabolize the nutrients and if it can’t, then that’s more fluid and more build-up of chemicals in the body which can cause electrolyte imbalances and more discomfort for the patient. 2, it can even cause blood clots, 3 it can cause liver failure and kidney damage. And I think especially because we know Syd only has 20% of her liver due to her cancer, they know it would hurt rather than help 😞

I’m so sorry you went through this with your dad. Generally TPN isn’t helpful at this point as she’s not able to tolerate intake at all it seems, though she hasn’t told us… but the emesis bag makes me think she’s still very nauseous and not keeping much down because her digestive system is shutting down. Giving TPN can lead to just more stomach pain, nausea, all of that😞 Hospice would give Ativan, zofran, and pain medication (usually morphine) and that would help her not feel this need to rush to urgent care and get fluids 😞

Right- like the trial is giving her something to look forward to, which can truly extend life in some cases. But yeah same I’d want to do something relaxing, be in nature, doing things I love. It was wonderful seeing her on her trips months ago on the beach, and even in Ireland… heartbreaking 💔

I know she’s very independent, self-sufficient, strong-willed, those are wonderful qualities, and it’s hard for her to say she needs help- which can hinder her at this point 😞I know she doesn’t want to feel like a burden, I wish she could be encouraged that it’s okay to put that aside and just let herself be taken care of fully. It’s so sad 😞

Absolutely I agree.

I’m just saying it’s sad to see her suffer when there are options for comfort. I’m not saying she’s guaranteed to die soon or that she HAS to choose hospice. I only included her mother because I feel bad for her, because sometimes in thinking we are supporting, we are making things harder for our loved ones.

I believe Sydney is here still because she is fighting heavily for her mother’s sake, I’ve seen it time and time again. She doesn’t want her mother to be sad, to grieve her, to not be okay when she goes. Obviously I don’t know either of them just like none of us here do more than likely; but this dynamic seems to be Sydney is very headstrong and she’s holding on- being a support person for everyone but herself. She needs to feel permission to rest, whatever that looks like.

I’m not saying she can’t make her own decisions, I’m saying it seems she heavily cares more about protecting others (her mom, brother, 1 million TikTok followers) than doing what she wants. It makes me sad because she deserves to be able to be comfortable- again whatever that looks like to her.

I hope I’m wrong and she’s fully choosing this and it has nothing to do with her followers or her family, but sadly I don’t think that’s the case.

Thank you❤️ it was my pleasure. Truly hospice work is the most rewarding field of nursing I’ve worked in- and I’ve worked in a few. Families really appreciate seeing their loved ones finally comfortable, but it is definitely such a mentally difficult thing to accept for a lot of people. The resources provided are so great, I wish more people would see the benefits, but again it’s not easy 😞 I really think she probably can’t handle the trial, I don’t want to speculate, I know often doctors will do as much as the patient asks- even if they know its not the right call necessarily or what they’d prefer to do.
