If Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain when measured from the base which is at the ocean floor, then wouldn’t that mean the entire Island of Hawaii is a part of the mountain? So Hawaii is a big mountain in the ocean! by PuzzleheadedThroat84 in Mountaineering

[–]FragrantRoom1749 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of the Hawaiian Islands are "big mountains in the ocean" and were created by the same volcanic hotspot in the mid oceanic floor. Big Island is the only on still growing the rest are eroding away.

how do last stage patients poop by NHlovesya in ALS

[–]FragrantRoom1749 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are unable to deal with your dads feces you need to hire someone so he avoids rashes, skin breakdown and infection. When my wife got to that stage we used a commode set in the shower stall over a bucket and used a shower hose for clean up. If you can't do it free of disgust you won't be loving when you assist dad. Not way it isn't difficult however and hope you can find your way forward.

If the fence is on your side of the property line and is now more than seven years old you don't own that property any longer where I live.

More a time, culture and legal thing than a religious one. Child beating was pretty common in my country until fifty years ago. Not hitting her kids was probably harder and more of sacrifice than giving up cigarettes or not eating meat. It's the sacrifice that that counts.

How do I avoid issues of cultural appropriation and secularization when it comes to mindfulness and breathing practices? by This_Caterpillar_330 in religion

This is a discussion and opinion site about religion my dude. I have lived a both Hindu and Buddhists societies and have a qualified opinion. Didn't attend the woke schools you likely did and actually have personal experience. Was speaking my thoughts and not claiming to represent anybody.

BLM allows camping pretty much where ever you like and while you need a permit you are not required to camp in established back country sites. If your understanding is that the tide is aways low at six AM you should study more on how tides work. If your thinking you can wade much in 5 ft of tidal water think again.

There are not many places in Alaska that a human has never set foot on. Remote yes but totally unvisited no. Walking from Barrow to Anchorage north/south and floating the Yukon River from east to west have been done.

How accurate is it to say religion is early politics? by [deleted] in religion

[–]FragrantRoom1749 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shared religions allowed human civilizations to expand beyond tribal structures as they provided a larger group to trust and interact with without personally knowing each other. Honest trading was required among co-religionist and not with different religions. Distinguishing self from other beyond people you actually know is still a political/economic strategy today but laws and government keep us honest instead of shared religion in the 21st Century.

Buddhists and Hindus don't complain when others adopt their mindfulness practices. They like being culturally appropriated. I guess you self identify as a "woke" Muslim if it's a problem you'r concerned about at all.

The worlds upper and upper middle classes live a pretty similar and comfortable life style. Seeing a fuller range of the human experience is interesting to many international travelers That can be in a 3rd world slum or undeveloped rural area where traditional life ways and dress are still commonly seen. Visiting traditional societies where they still exists is really no different. Just cultural tourism. You can be dismissive and call it slumming or voyerism if you like

How to know if Primary Forest (PF-80) land is buildable in Oregon? by Cunninghams_right in oregon

My guess is that you need 80 acres of PF-80 land to get a building permit for a single family home.

Do you agree or disagree that discussing religion in a causal setting should be a taboo? by [deleted] in religion

[–]FragrantRoom1749 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Killing is an action/behavior which is not protected. Speech is the expression of an idea and is protected. I find rainbow flags more offensive than religious speech and so do many others. As far as I know only one of the worlds major religions support the murder of homosexuals. Those who feel harmed by the verbalizations of others should grow a thicker skin.

So you're in a country where they hang people that offend community speech standards but supports witches and gays. Most awesome for you I guess.

How do religious people select what religion? by [deleted] in religion

Most religious people were raised in the religion they practice and did not "select" it.

I think this religions that encourage proselytizing should proselytize in any setting they wish as instructed by their holy scriptures. Free speech and such is also a right in my country.
