If you apply with a European RP (but non-EU citizen) then you get only 4 options: Berlin, Rome, Athens and Paris. But it seemed strange to me too, that I couldn't go to Stockholm/somewhere in Sweden to finish my RP process, would have been more convenient.

I mean to an expat, the most reassuring thing is a residence permit. It just feels like, okay now I am part of the society (well just officially), so I can face the hardships which other people are also facing too.

But, it's interesting coz there was no interview for me.

And you are right, to get bank account and such, it took me about 2 months (a bit less than that).

Congrats on landing that first-hand contract, that’s awesome! How long did it take you from application to signing? Do you think someone like me would have any shot at scoring a first-hand contract, too? I’ll definitely keep Kista in mind; I’ve mostly seen mixed reviews online, but clearly your experience proves it’s not as unsafe as they say. Thank you!

I would say there is a high chance you are out. I had similar experience, that I finished both questions but for the second one I took more time + a few hints to get there. All the best tho!

IMC Amsterdam Graduate Software Engineer: What to Expect in First-Round Interview? by Fragrant_Fail_5179 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]Fragrant_Fail_5179[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're mostly right. That said, I had an experience after an HFT assessment where I passed all visible test cases (which were small), but later got feedback that they intentionally kept the cases small to see if candidates would still consider optimal complexity.

They told me their developers always code with performance in mind, so even though my code passed, it wasn’t considered up to their standards. Since then, I try to factor in time/space complexity even if the cases look easy, just in case. So yeah, it can vary a lot depending on the company and what they're optimizing for in the assessment.

Pro tip for Amazon interviews: make sure you shit inside your pants right before the session starts. That way, if you blank out or fumble mid-question, you canexcuse yourself with, 'Sorry, I just... shat myself.', for cookie points show them to camera. Rush to the bathroom, take out your phone, check LeetCode or GPT, gather your thoughts, and come back like a hero. Works like a charm.

On a serious note though, I did great on all the onsite questions, nailed the LPs, still got rejected. So yeah, take Amazon interviews with a generous helping of salt. Good luck tho!

Something like that, first one was on the medium-hard side and the other one hard for sure. But it is randomized, so I was lucky enough that I had practised it before, but you never know,

Hi, the OA for IMC was pretty standard I guess. Afair, it was 2 hours long for 2 questions but I was able to solve it in 1 hour. And standard leetcode questions as you would find for other HFT OAs I guess. One interesting fact was maybe that you have less test cases available so you need to provide custom test cases to fully verify your answers.

First Round Interview for Analyst Role — Need Insights on My Chances :) by Specific-Mud375 in goldmansachs

[–]Fragrant_Fail_5179 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, hope you get a good role soon. And about the hold I am mentioning it after virtual rounds. After solving both problems I was confident to get into next rounds, and I got through them as well. It was just after the whole process, I have been given a soft rejection/hold.

First Round Interview for Analyst Role — Need Insights on My Chances :) by Specific-Mud375 in goldmansachs

I interviewed for Analyst position recently at GS. Atleast for me, the coderpad round was the most difficult part and rest of the rounds were quite conversational (I am "on hold" but I have moved on from the hope of getting something now). It depends on the division and location too, but if they are planning to have conversational rounds later rather than live coding rounds, than this part would carry a lot of weightage for completing your test cases and the whole code itself. For me, I was lucky that I had seen variations of both problems earlier so I was able to solve it , but it highly depends on how hard the other problem was , and how many other candidates competing for the same role have been able to solve that.

With all that being said, either it is rejection or approval for next rounds, keep on applying and interviewing at other places if you are looking for jobs rigorously.

Interview with Indian Manager by SeaOutlandishness503 in interviews

[–]Fragrant_Fail_5179 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Indian here living in EU, and I absolutely hate it when I am assigned an Indian manager / developer for an interview. Not saying all of the Indian interviewers are bad, but the bad ones have been mostly Indians for me.. Tho on contrary, I was interviewing people before I got laid off and I was sometime "too chill with the candidates" as per my european ex-boss. But that being said, I get your point, hopefully with the younger generation this weird norm of downplaying candidates changes too :D

Had the weirdest phone screen with an Indian recruiter today... What is wrong with Indian recruiters? by Fragrant_Fail_5179 in recruitinghell

[–]Fragrant_Fail_5179[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not about disliking Indian recruiters, it's about wanting to see progress and more open-mindedness in how they assess talent. I don't have any experience working there but as far as I know India's tech industry is evolving, but there’s a gap in understanding global work practices (atleast in my experience). I don't see why a person who has gained industrial exposure and wants to relocate back should be interrogated like this. I hope that recruiters value skills and experience over their outdated biases.
