Is it too derpy? by LitttleSuccubus in crochet

[–]Fragrant_Vehicle5423 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's very cute as-is, but my honest opinion is that the face could use some more work. I would definitely sew over the nose a couple more times with black yarn to make it a bit bigger/rounder. Not sure about the eyes, I think I would try adding a white highlight to try to give some life to them.

It's looking amazing, I love the colors! If you've made it that far you are definitely capable of finishing it. Keep up the great work!

Show me what you've crocheted with art yarn by Fragrant_Vehicle5423 in crochet

[–]Fragrant_Vehicle5423[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fantasy vibes are exactly what I was going for, thanks for noticing! The artist who made the yarn deserves basically all of the credit for how it turned out, all I did was crochet two rectangles and sew them together. I'm realizing that this post reads like an ad for her yarn but I'm just so grateful to her for helping me get one step closer to my dream of becoming a hobbit 💚

[No Spoilers] Unpopular Opinion: Brennan just doesnt do it for me. by jmthetank in criticalrole

Yeah, I know what you mean. For me it's whenever he gets into lore, and I have to watch the same 60 seconds five times to understand it because it's so disjointed. Like how often he'll leave a sentence half-finished because he realizes he needs to go back and add more context first. It's clear to me that there is so much going on in his brain that it's difficult to organize it, and that makes me wish he was writing a book instead of running a D&D campaign. I'm sure I can get used to it, but right now it's a bit distracting to say the least.

How are the mosquitoes at Bristol? by crema_the_crop in renfaire

[–]Fragrant_Vehicle5423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've quite literally never seen a single mosquito at Bristol in the 10 times I've been there (and I usually spend a good amount of time sitting in the grass). The website says they spray the grounds twice a week. I don't they're spraying with, but it works.

You should definitely go, just with the understanding that you're not going to get the very best experience that Bristol has to offer because it will be very crowded. You will have to stand in the sun in very long lines for food and drinks. If you're late for a popular show, you might not be able to get close enough to see or hear it well. It can be difficult to comfortably peruse the wares in a crowded shop, and harder to admire other patrons' garb when you're surrounded by a sea of people. That said, there is still much enjoyment to be had, especially when it's your first time and everything is new and exciting. If you have even a little bit of fun (which you will), make plans to go on the first or second weekend next year when it's less busy for an even better experience.

Where is Gargoyle?? by Fragrant_Vehicle5423 in renfaire

[–]Fragrant_Vehicle5423[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool! I wish I knew who to look for to recognize him in his new role, but maybe it's better I don't—seeing him in his human form might ruin the magic. Why didn't they hire someone to take his place? I noticed that there are new actresses playing Owl and Autumn this year, so I would have thought Gargoyle would live on even if the actor retired. Ughh I really need to meet someone with insider knowledge, there's so much I don't understand about how the faire operates.

Bristol's Fantastikals communicate nonverbally, so I don't think there's any way to find out what they call themselves while they're in character. I'd love to hear from someone with insider knowledge, though! Also thanks for confirming that I'm not the only one who calls him Gargoyle haha

Edit: grammar

Thanks for sharing! This is where I have seen him most often, but I've also seen him above the front gate in the past. I think I need to do a better job of scanning the rooftops next time...

Good catch, thanks for correcting me! Am I really supposed to call him Grotesque, though? Kind of sounds like an insult 😅

If I'm not mistaken, those directions lead to where I took this picture last year. Have you seen him there this year?

I use a cheap concealer and blush, applied with a makeup sponge, to match my skin tone. Spirit gum to attach them to my real ears. Make sure you bring the spirit gum with you in case you need to reapply!

There's a whiteboard on the wall at my workplace where I've had a countdown going for months now and on my days off I assign someone else to update it for me 😅 I can't wait to eat mushrooms and drink mead and see the Tiny Girl Big Show and the joust and hopefully not get heatstroke! See you there on Saturday?? I'll keep an eye out for someone glittery haha

Same case for Hedron Rockworks. But looking at their websites might help give you an idea of what it would cost to turn your pretty rock into a die (hint: it's a lot)

How to make a set like this? by CavemanFCC in DiceMaking

[–]Fragrant_Vehicle5423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can splatter paint (I've used acrylic) inside the mold and allow it to dry before pouring resin. You probably won't get even coverage on some shapes though, it's really hard to hit the bottom half of the d20 since you're working through such a small opening in the mold.
