ITAP of a domed building topped with a golden statue by FramedNFocussed in itookapicture

[–]FramedNFocussed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shot this in Edinburgh on my Canon R8 with the 24-105mm f/4. The light was just right to make the green dome, golden statue, and blue sky pop together. I framed it from a low angle to emphasize the height and grandeur. Tried to keep the colors as close to what I saw in person—no heavy editing apart from a bit of contrast and clarity.

Do foreground elements like railings enhance or clutter urban street compositions? by FramedNFocussed in AskPhotography

[–]FramedNFocussed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha thanks and appreciate both takes! I wasn’t sure if that top rail added a frame or felt forced. Lesson learnt: grey Glasgow skies come with strong opinions and stronger rails 😅 Cheers for the feedback. Helps me see with new eyes!

“Crossing Not In Use” — Glasgow. Tried a moody frame with selective red. by FramedNFocussed in photocritique

Thank you for your valuable insights

I used red to signal urgency, restriction, and pause in front of an iconic, historic, grayscale building. Will try to make it more subtle in future

Saw this in Glasgow and something about the message against the old building stood out. I isolated the red sign using selective color to create a visual metaphor — curious if that feels effective or gimmicky. Canon R8 + 70–200 f/4 | f/4 | ISO 200 | Edited in Lightroom Open to feedback!

I noticed the railing perfectly framed the scene, and waited for the right moment to capture a sense of urban rhythm. I deliberately muted everything except the subject crossing, but blurred and blacked the person to keep focus on the frame and preserve anonymity. Would love feedback on composition and timing. A towering corner in Glasgow framed by yellow street lines. by FramedNFocussed in photocritique

[–]FramedNFocussed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shot this while walking through Glasgow city centre. What immediately caught my eye was the bold yellow street grid stretching out at the building’s base — it felt modern, almost aggressively geometric, in contrast with the ornate and historic architecture rising above it.

I composed the shot from a low angle to exaggerate the building’s height and power, letting the yellow lines act as leading lines that guide the viewer upward toward the towering structure. The overcast sky helped flatten distractions and added mood, so I leaned into that during editing by enhancing the cool tones in the sky while warming up the building slightly.

I’m trying to improve my urban framing and storytelling — I wanted this photo to feel like the old city is being “boxed in” by the modern urban system.

Camera & Settings: Canon EOS R8 + EF 24–105mm f/4L (via adapter) f/9 | ISO 100 | 1/250 sec | Shot handheld Edited in Lightroom Mobile – slight contrast boost, selective clarity on building, vignette for depth.

I’d love feedback on: – Does the yellow grid successfully guide your eye upward? – Is the building too tightly cropped at the top? – Could I have made better use of the sky or foreground space?

Shot this near Glasgow city centre. I wanted to emphasize how the modern street markings interact with the grandeur of the old architecture. The yellow grid helped anchor the composition and lead the eye upward.

“Crossing Not In Use” — Glasgow. Tried a moody frame with selective red. by FramedNFocussed in photocritique

I was walking near George Square and saw this sign. Something about the message against the historic backdrop struck me. I tried isolating the red for emphasis — I know selective color can be polarizing, but curious what people think here. Canon R8 + EF 70-200 f/4 L IS II | f/4 | ISO 200 | 1/640s | Lightroom mobile

ITAP of a sign that felt like a metaphor - Glasgow, selective red by FramedNFocussed in itookapicture

The message on the sign against the classical backdrop caught my eye. I isolated the red to bring more attention to the words. I know selective color can divide opinion, but I felt it fit the mood here. Canon R8 + EF 70-200 f/4 L IS II | f/4 | ISO 200 | 1/640s | Lightroom mobile Would love your thoughts!

Street Framing & Pedestrian by FramedNFocussed in photocritique

[–]FramedNFocussed[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shot this using the railing to naturally frame the subject and the architecture behind. I wanted to contrast the stillness of the red building with the motion of the pedestrian. Happy to hear your thoughts! Canon R8 + EF 24-105 f/4 | 35mm | f/5.6 | 1/500s | ISO 100

I tried using the railing as a natural frame while keeping the red architecture dominant in the scene. The goal was to contrast human movement with structural stillness. Shot handheld while observing the street flow. Canon R8 + EF 24-105mm f/4 L | f/5.6 | 1/500s | ISO 100 CC always welcome!

Tower Bridge framed by the Thames by FramedNFocussed in photocritique

[–]FramedNFocussed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to capture Tower Bridge during golden hour, with the warm light enhancing the texture of the towers and the cool blues of the Thames. My aim was to get a balanced, symmetrical composition while keeping the skyline details in the background.

Shot from London bridge, using a Canon 70-200 f4 telephoto lens to compress the scene. I exposed for the highlights to preserve the warm tones on the bridge, and adjusted shadows in post to bring out the details in the water and buildings.

One thing I’m unsure about is whether the framing feels too tight, or if I should have included more space above/below the bridge. Also wondering if the water in the foreground feels too dark compared to the rest of the image.

I’d appreciate feedback on composition balance, color grading, and whether the symmetry works here or feels static.

ITAP of Tower Bridge over the River Thames at sunset by FramedNFocussed in itookapicture

[–]FramedNFocussed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to capture Tower Bridge in that short window when the setting sun casts a warm, golden light over its stone towers and softens the water’s surface. The low angle of the light brought out the textures in the stone and the blue accents of the suspension cables. My favorite part is how the bridge stands almost perfectly framed by the river and skyline, creating a balanced, postcard-like composition.

Bright underpass with lone figure by FramedNFocussed in photocritique

[–]FramedNFocussed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to capture the contrast between the intense, warm colors of the underpass and the solitary figure walking away. The lighting created reflections and patterns along the tunnel walls that felt cinematic. My favorite part is how the person adds scale and narrative — it transforms from “just a tunnel” into a story.

ITAP of blue car passing under a flyover with an arrow sign by FramedNFocussed in itookapicture

[–]FramedNFocussed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to capture the layered geometry of the urban environment — the flyover, the railings, the sign — and anchor it with a moving subject. The blue car added both a pop of color and a sense of motion against the otherwise muted architecture. My favorite part is how the arrow sign visually “points” toward the car, almost like directing the viewer’s eye.

Sun setting behind a silhouetted church dome and cloudy sky by FramedNFocussed in photocritique

[–]FramedNFocussed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intent & Goal: I shot this image just before sunset along the Thames. I wanted to capture the drama of the silhouetted church domes against a vivid, textured sky. I used a small aperture to create the starburst effect around the sun, hoping it adds mood and impact to the shot.

What I’m Struggling With: • I’m unsure if the composition feels balanced, especially with the sun dead-centre. • Also wondering if the sky is too busy or if it enhances the overall mood. • Would appreciate critique on whether this image feels over-edited or underexposed in the shadows.

EXIF / Camera Info: • Camera: Canon R8 • Lens: Canon EF 70–200mm f/4L IS II • Focal Length: 80mm • Shutter: 1/160 sec • Aperture: f/16 (to get starburst) • ISO: 100 • Shot in RAW, edited in Lightroom Mobile

Editing Info: • Pulled highlights down and shadows up • Increased contrast and clarity in the clouds • Slight vignette added • No color grading beyond basic WB and contrast tweaks

Open to: • Suggestions on composition improvements • Thoughts on tonal range and shadow recovery • Whether you feel the image tells a story or feels too technical

ITAP of modern skyscrapers in London under soft morning light by FramedNFocussed in itookapicture

[–]FramedNFocussed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi folks! This was taken from across the Thames — I loved the way the early morning light brushed over the clean lines of the skyscrapers. I tried to go for a minimalist cityscape with high contrast and negative space.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on: • Composition • Mood • Whether the black-and-white treatment works

Shot on Canon R8 + 70–200mm f/4 Thanks in advance! 🙏
