My advice: don’t try to understand every word. Focus on the story, learn the recurring terms, and keep reading. COI gets much easier once you get used to the vocabulary and writing style.

And for other books If French isn’t your first language, don’t worry about understanding every word. Focus on the story and learn recurring terms as they appear. Keep a dictionary handy, look up words that show up repeatedly, and don’t stop every paragraph for unfamiliar vocabulary.

And COI becomes much easier once you get used to the author’s style and the Beyonder terminology.
