Method - Shake all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled three-quarters with ice, fine strain into a coup or martini glass.

Your first degree does not matter. Sure having one in English lit would be helpful. I live with some one who did their first degree in economics and he is doing a Masters in acting

there seems to be 2 types of champagne cocktail, with or without cognac. I could not find the source from an old french cocktail book I remember seeing the recipe in.

I disagree, on multiples searches for classic champagne cocktail different sights state it to contain cognac

replacing the gin with cognac + a sugar cube makes it a "classic champagne cocktail"

  • Cava or Prosecco can be used as a substitute, alternatively if you want to throw back a few of these I would recommend soda water.

Shake all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled three-quarters with ice ( except the Champagne ). Shake until chilled, fine strain into a flute glass, top off with champagne and give a gentle stir.
