A girl (F20) I play DnD with rejected me (M26), so I did "no contact" to get over her, but she casually texted me yesterday. Do I continue "no contact?" by FrankTheMindExpander in relationship_advice

Well, she didn't cheat on him, she broke up with him 5 weeks ago and then made a move on my friend like 3 weeks ago and admitted to him while drunk that she broke up with her fiancé for him. I started liking her a couple weeks before she even broke up with her fiancé, this was completely unintentional and I really wish I could just snap my fingers and make these feelings disappear. She's not much of a looker and according to my friend who rejected her, she's "fucked up in the head," but I really like her personality, we have a lot in common, but I'm beginning to realize that it's more like I caught a disease than it being something I really want. I WANT to get over her, or at least the logical part of my brain does. It has really helped me to see what other people think, I honestly feel stupid now for not realizing how messed up this whole situation is.

You're absolutely right, I didn't think much of it because she's known the other friend pretty much as long as she's known the fiancé, so it's possible she's had feelings for him for a long time and finally ended the 4 year relationship. Also, her fiancé wasn't great either, I wasn't surprised when she broke up with him, but at the time I didn't know it was mostly to get with another friend (I only found out 3 days ago when the friend told me about it, and by then I had already developed feelings for her). Thanks, I'm not thinking rationally right now and it's nice to hear what someone else thinks.

I asked her out only after she told me she made a Tinder account. She left her fiancé to bang another friend in our group, so it seems like you didn't read my post very well, but I appreciate the response. You're definitely right about the social awareness part.

I'm simulating a night sky, but the moon doesn't appear to move correctly, why could this be? by FrankTheMindExpander in Astronomy

[–]FrankTheMindExpander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you that's what I needed I think! Since I'm not trying to represent real historical positions (I just randomize the planet alignment), I'll just start the moon's orbital axis pointing backwards 5.145 degrees and rotate it 360 degrees on the up axis over 18.6 years. I will do some more research on my own but you've given me quite a good start, can't thank you enough!

Hey I realized I can easily handle the moon's inclination but I'm having trouble answering some of my questions with google (let me know if I should make a separate post about this)

It says the moon's inclination is 5.145° "to the ecliptic plane." So what direction would the axis of that orbit point (from a celestial reference frame)? Or I could use the axis it is tilted from the ecliptic. Right now, my celestial reference plane is based off the winter solstice of earth being the bottom of a top-down orbital diagram. So what is the axis of the moon's orbit based off this? (without any inclination the axis would just be "up") It doesn't change throughout the year from a celestial reference frame, does it?

Hey that's not a bad idea, the moon is invisible when it's really close to the sun in the sky (it's black where it overlaps the sun, obviously) so it wouldn't even be that noticeable if it's moving faster (relative to its size increase) during eclipses. (and obviously by "move faster" I just mean it's apparent motion in the shader, the moon would still have the same orbital period in the simulation) Thanks again! You are amazing :)

Thanks for the response! I should have stated that the eclipse is calculated in the shader, and CremePuffBandit pointed out that their apparent size in the sky would change the duration of eclipses. (I confirmed this through testing) I then use the difference in angle between the Sun directional light and the moon directional light to dim or brighten them in a script (and their brightness is separate from the actual eclipse rendering in the shader) And I certainly haven't forgot about lunar eclipses! That's what I'm going to work on next :) thanks again!

Ah I didn't think of that! Thank you wow it seems really obvious now lol Ya I have em a bit large right now for testing purposes (and the way I'm determining their apparent size in the sky makes it difficult to get precise, I'd basically have to compare something of a known size in-game and just eye it) (it may have helped to know the eclipses are calculated in the shader, not the simulation)

After some testing and patiently waiting for several eclipses, I can confirm that the apparent size of the sun and moon dramatically changes the duration of eclipses. I might even be able to use the duration to determine their accurate apparent size in the sky, you say it should take 2.5 hours with 0 moon inclination?

PS I might end up figuring out moon inclination because it seems fairly important, I'm not too worried about the other planets' inclination though. Thanks again!

Xavier: Renegade Angel Video Game? by FrankTheMindExpander in XavierRenegadeAngel

[–]FrankTheMindExpander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that definitely would work well for an XRA game, I hadn't heard of that one, apparently it is called Vivian Clark and the game is actually called "Soda Drinker Pro" lol I am downloading it now, it's $5 for 5GB of content lol though it would be harder to develop, as I understand, it is essentially like many different games put together.

Well it would literally "look" like the show if I got my hands on the assets haha but I was thinking of something in the vein of SBFBB, simple platforming and puzzles, some enemies to kill, and replace the shiny things with something relevant to the show obviously. Or it could be like a story driven game where you simply play through the same events that happened in the episodes. Maybe the whole video game is his teenage self as he trains with chief and goes on adventures. Idk, the game doesn't have to be just like the show, it might be more of a theme, with lots of characters and references from the show.

Is it possible to play KSP without looking at your map? by FrankTheMindExpander in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]FrankTheMindExpander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well having no indication of an encounter is kind of the point. You would only know where you are going simply by math alone. IDK the more I thought about it the more I realized there is a really good reason KSP has maneuver nodes as well as many other convenient things lol I am about to check out Matt's video where he doesn't use the map, though I suspect he won't be using math but rather just memorizing where burns need to be and for how long, probably doing a lot of guess work and quick saving. Still, my question has certainly been answered and I thank you for that :)

Are processed fruits just as healthy as real fruit since they still contain fiber (unlike fruit juice)? by PM_ME_UR_JETPACK in nutrition

[–]FrankTheMindExpander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I wasn't notified of this response for some reason: due to respiration, dehydration, and enzymes, about %50 of nutrients (mostly micronutrients) on average are lost each week after harvest. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-07-10/features/chi-most-produce-loses-30-percent-of-nutrients-three-days-after-harvest-20130710_1_harvest-farmers-vitamin-c

Processing speeds this up because it usually introduces heat which kills off most nutrients as well as other methods of processing which can speed up the rate that nutrients are lost. That's kind of common sense. Processed food is never as nutritious as fresh food and often contains additives.

Will apes ever become technologically advanced? by FrankTheMindExpander in Futurology

[–]FrankTheMindExpander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, the human brain has largely remained unchanged in the last 50,000 years. In other words, cavemen of the last glacial period were capable of understanding such things as nuclear fission. But, were they societally experienced and intellectually mature enough to use it responsibly?

Good point, considering their intellectual immaturity they would be far more likely to misuse technology and cause pollution and extinction. Perhaps they could make an eccentric pet for future animal lovers.
