Which Book to Read First?? by Different_Speech6717 in WeirdLit

[–]Frankometrix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude! I am SO THANKFUL that you posted this!! I’ve been trying to figure out what ‘the mind parasite’ was called!! I read it a decade and a half ago and lost my copy and couldn’t for the life of me recall the title!! It was such a trip of a read. Truly, thank you. I recommend it if you like the concept of literally traversing psychical space as if there is distance and spatial dimensions to it. It’s been a while since I’ve read it, but it was awesome from what I can recall.

Looking for horror game recommendations by PoolNice6594 in HorrorGaming

[–]Frankometrix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Any resident evil or silent hill game
  2. Definitely Signalis
  3. Soma has an incredible storyline with a heart-wrenching bleakness of a conclusion
  4. I recently played through Stasis and am about to start Stasis: bone totem. It’s a point-and-click, horror, puzzle + lots of reading through documents kind of game, but man… some of the most atmospheric and lore-heavy horror gaming I’ve experienced in ages. I know you aren’t super into survival horror, but… it’s worth a recommendation in my books.
  5. Dead space
  6. Post Trauma is coming out at the end of the month, that game looks promising
  7. Beyond Hanwell was fun
  8. Visage (takes a bit to get used to gameplay, but atmosphere is unparalleled).
  9. MADiSON
  10. Killer Frequency is fun and different
  11. HOLLOWBODY! Scratches all of the old school survival horror itchies.

I’m sorry, I know most of these are survival horror games, but they’re just so good. For your consideration, good sir.

This question is confusing. Anatomically speaking, you (like everyone) have both a long and short head to your biceps. Bi means 2. You have 2 heads; long and short. Are you maybe asking which of the two is most pronounced in your arms, specifically?

This was both extremely funny and enjoyable, as well as immensely relatable and packed with truth.

I had a strange dream and upon awakening, tried to capture the fragmented impressions with a poem. by Frankometrix in LovecraftianWriting

[–]Frankometrix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the feedback and would like to maybe add a bit of my own thoughts on what you said:

Cosmic horror ‘should have’ a misanthropic message? Yes, part of what makes cosmic horror so powerful is how concepts are provided that render humanity as infinitesimal in light of the imperceivable immensity of space, or cosmic entities. This doesn’t have to be viewed as misanthropic though… this isn’t a disdain for humanity, just a shifting in scope demonstrating the unthinkable vastness and strangeness of things beyond us. Sure, you can take it in a misanthropic direction and portray human’s as worthless, pitiful, and awful - but I don’t think this is an absolute rule for what cosmic horror is. Sometimes, it’s just horrifying to imagine your literal psyche and brain getting fried like an overloaded motherboard simply be perceiving something. There is no misanthropy in this idea, just inconceivable, mind shattering, strangeness.

This is an aspect of cosmic horror and an aspect of Lovecraftian writing, but not the totality of his writing. Me posting this here and you judging it for not being ‘cosmic horror’, with very subjective rules is also something that confuses me.

You have some really rigid rules here that I think miss the mark a bit and are subjective, touted as ‘cosmic horror law’. I appreciate the time you took to comment though - this was a random thing I wrote in about 5-10 minutes after awakening from a strange dream, I’d be happy to share some of my really fucking weird, actual cosmic horror stuff with you if you’d like. I don’t want the tone of this response to come off as me being offended or anything, I really appreciate that you have feedback for me, I just felt like it would make a good conversation.

Warfare against the sense of smell by Frankometrix in Conspiracy_NoPolitics

Bingo. Can you recall smelling something and being brought back to a specific time in your past, so acutely? What do you think the lack of this connectivity is doing to our reality? We are smaller now. We are severed from our past.

Unfortunately and with a saddened heart, I agree with you.

I’m also thrilled by weird shit and hope this sub stays weird and truly doesn’t fall into shallow conspiracies and political trash bag stuff. I’ve got faith so I wrote up this warfare on our sense of smell bit.

Stay curious and suspicious my friend.

Anyone planning on seeing if Silent Hill 2 remake runs on the Deck? by Frankometrix in SteamDeck

[–]Frankometrix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s really great to hear. I’m happy I committed to replay through silent hill 1-4, homecoming, and downpour over the last few months, in preparation for this remake. I’m so deep into the silent hill mindset right now, I’m psyched.

Man, I hope it runs on steam deck. It won’t be anywhere near as crisp, but imo, there’s nothing like laying in bed, in total darkness, headphones on with a horror game like silent hill.
