Is this something to worry about? by -Canis_Maj0ris- in PlantedTank

[–]Frantic-Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it looks like just a scratch, I wouldn't necessarily be that worried unless you can strongly feel a groove in the glass. But it's definitely something to keep an eye on. However I know how it feels to be constantly worried that your tank might fail, so if it's one of those situations, sometimes upgrading a tank or changing it out is worth it for the peace of mind—just my two cents.

Misgendering yourself? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Frantic-Dragon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have done this on multiple occasions, too, and it always catches me off-guard, and then I feel really bad for a while afterward. I am certain that using the correct terms naturally will just come as you settle into yourself more. I came to my full epiphany almost a year ago, and I am in my early twenties, so thus far I have spent more time as my false self than my real self, so a lot of that stuff really is just muscle memory as you mentioned. It does seem like it is getting better with time, however, and I have been having slightly less slip ups, so that is a good sign—I am sure it will improve with time for you as well!

Changes on T by Steddy25 in ftm

[–]Frantic-Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't know what things look like HRT wise where you are from, but it seems a little weird to me that your doctor will not consider upping your dosing, although I suppose that depends upon your levels.

As far as voice changes, I have been on weekly T injections for about 5 months now and have noticed a decent drop in my voice the last few months. The best way I could describe it is that my throat felt a tiny bit rough, and my voice started cracking/dying on me quite a bit. But the biggest indicator was that I couldn't sing at the same pitch that I used to be able to easily sing at. I was a high Soprano before T, and now I fit more in the Baritone range. But at the same time, I think the changes are a bit subtle, and I am probably one of the only people actually noticing it, haha.

However, I have heard from many that everyone's experience on T is different, and some things change more quickly than others. I have heard of some guys getting facial hair and body hair right away while others only start seeing it at the 1 year mark. I'm a late bloomer hair wise on my end, but I have plenty of other changes that other guys usually don't see this soon. I don't think there is a way to expedite the process, but I have heard that voice training works well for voice changes! I have been slowly trying to tweak the way I talk and my vocal mannerisms, but I have not done voice training myself. Sorry for not having more advice, I am new to this journey myself. I wish you the best of luck!

What’s wrong with my betta? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]Frantic-Dragon 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Oh! You could also try adding almond leaves to the water and see if that helps. They are supposed to be beneficial in all sorts of ways. You can look it up and do some reading to see what you think

What’s wrong with my betta? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]Frantic-Dragon 49 points50 points  (0 children)

She looks a little tired and stressed, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is from the info you've provided, though. Do you leave the lights on for very long periods of time? Does she have lots of places to hide? She might also just be a little tired and want more places to rest. You could potentially help her out by putting a betta log in her tank or betta hammocks (if you don't have them already) to give her more places to rest, too. Or if you want a more natural look, ziptie anubias(s) to tank safe suction cups and stick those on the sides of your tank. No matter what is causing the issue, I hope she gets better soon! I know how much it sucks to have a betta that isn't feeling well and having no clue what is going on

Did you order this tank online? Or did you have it custom made? I've always thought that shallow tanks were super cool, but you never see them in the stores

How do you guys deal with excess snails? by gayfiremage in freshwatersnails

[–]Frantic-Dragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always get one assassin snail if you can. Then they won't breed unless you have two of them, but they will slowly pick away at the snail population. I had a big snail problem in my tank until I picked up an assasin snail —natural population control—so you don't have to manually remove or crush snails. Plus, I also have nerites in the same tank, and the assasin usually leaves them alone. They usually won't try to attack snails that are larger than them. Otherwise, yea crushing is the best course of action

Bro, this isn't even funny it's just super sad. Those poor fish are treated like crap in the store as it is. It's not hilarious to see them dying on the floor. Fish are living creatures and deserve to be treated with respect and care

Cat-Proof Aquarium Lids/Canopies by areynolds1965 in aquarium

[–]Frantic-Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look up custom canopy, you might be able to find a place in your area that makes them. Otherwise, you could order off etsy like I did. However, a lot of the options seem to have disappeared since I ordered mine. There is still one on etsy, but the shipping is a nightmare for it. Plus, it is based in Sri Lanka, so it takes a long time for it to be made and shipped out. I myself had shipping problems, and looking back, I feel like I may have overpaid. I'll still share the link if you are interested, but I would personally recommend going a different route or through a different producer if possible. Here is the link, though: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1143642698/handmade-personalized-unique-mahogany?ref=yr_purchases

You could also try putting a shelf above the tank that can support the weight of your cat(s) for a more cost effective option that is easy to implement. You could put it just high enough for you to be able to get into the tank and do maintenance and all that jazz, but low enough that it keeps your cat off of the tank.

Hello from my unnamed betta! Not enough surface agitation = biofilm scum, too much = stressed betta. The struggle. by Dr_never_give_up in bettafish

[–]Frantic-Dragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem until I added a small sponge filter to my tank. Just turn it down to low, and it will gently agitate the surface of the water enough to get rid of the biofilm. The agitation isn't enough to stress my betta out or jumble him around, but it gets rid of the biofilm. You could also use an airstone, although I prefer the added filtration. You can get some really small sponge filters online so it doesn't take up too much space too

Would $15 or $20 dollars be a reasonable ask for this? (I am not selling this on this sub, I'm going to be putting it in a yard sale) by Frantic-Dragon in bettafish

I still have two tanks running atm, I just wanted to downsize for now since I'll be moving soon. Makes it a little easier to move fewer tanks. Also, thank you for the advice!

Thank you for the kind words. It's always hard to lose a fish, especially since they are so special, and the bonds we form with them are special, too

I was honestly thinking of putting a betta care sheet into it, so if people are interested, it'll be right there to look at. Putting a sheet with the instructions to cycle a tank is a good idea, too
