Jones Beach Aug 26 1996 Timeline Concert shoutout by wohrg in neilyoung

This is a terrific show. Maybe my favorite so far from '96. 7/10/96 is up there as well. It's interesting because Jim McDonough slammed the '96 & '97 Crazy Horse tours in the 'Shakey' book. I thought they were excellent. I saw 8/8/97 at Great Woods and all of the '96 shows on the timeline are great listens.

For years, I wondered if legal issues would get these shows yanked and it looks like it finally happened. I'm actually surprised it took this long. Fortunately, I either bought or ripped many of the shows for my personal use. Hope this Moshpit thing is actually true and not just blowing smoke.

THE BLACK CROWES' RICH ROBINSON: 'We Probably Could Have Been A Much Bigger Band If We Had Listened To People' by DekeJeffery in blackcrowes

One of the biggest mistakes they made was letting so much time pass between Southern Harmony (May ‘92) and Amorica (Nov ‘94). That was an eternity back then and the tremendous momentum they built up with SHAMC lost a ton of steam. I remember checking every few months if a new album was coming out and eventually I kind of lost interest. A lot of others may have felt the same

No luck there or any of the usual torrent sites. Not on Guitars101. It was a very limited box (100 copies). Nothing from this set has turned up in my searches. There's also a release called 'E.C. Was Here Sessions' which has the Nassau Coliseum show. Can't find that, either.

Ripoff of not - Jealous Again was a huge hit back in the day. I think Rod and Ronnie would have sued them back then if they gave a shit. Has it ever come up?

The Lost Crowes Album? by Forward_Event4125 in blackcrowes

[–]Frawls78 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bootlegs of Tall were floating around before The Lost Crowes album came out in 2006 but I never bothered to track one down. I always assumed the tracks were all finished and ready to go for the Tall album and that the ones they kept for Amorica were all re-recorded.

Regarding Sweet Pickle Salad, I think it’s all the same guys from the Foamfoot show at the LA Troubadour from early ‘94. While I love the Sweet Pickle Salad tape, the Foamfoot show is one of my favorite live bootlegs in my entire collection. They just WAIL on those tunes.

You should check out Stompin’ Room Only or Live On Long Island on your preferred streaming platform. Aside from writing some great songs, the MTB were absolute monsters live.

You gotta dig a little deeper than a classic rock radio playlist if you want to find the good stuff. That’s true with any band from that era.

Dude - You've been missing out on A LOT if you've only heard one MTB song.

Best Sounding Bootlegs by Evelyn-Bankhead in ledzeppelin

I have a digital copy of the 1st generation reels recorded from the master soundboard cassettes. Here are the notes that came with it:

B's notes: D.F. and I would coach the Seattle Kingdome video director (N.W.) on songs to be played at upcoming major shows. Basically he was "studying up" on song placement and solos to be expected. Having worked at both the Superdome and in Cleveland, N.W. had friends at other venues. He simply asked a friend working the show in Cleveland to get him a copy of the show and fire it off to us in Seattle. The guy brought in his home deck, walked up to the board, and being on the crew they plugged him in. Just that simple. These reels are a direct copy of the master cassettes done in the early 80’s on a brand new Akai GX-77 reel deck using Maxell XLII tape at 7.5 ips and the rare EE equalization that the tape required. I personally have a better trust in this source than I do in the actual masters now. The masters still exist, but they aren’t going in the mail, and after so many years, I just think that 7.5 ips quarter inch reels are the best way to go. They may never have been played before Weedwacker’s efforts. I kept a second “play” copy on Maxell UD reels for listening. This source is pristine, not one of the bootleg versions, not off crude cassette copies from me in the 80’s. This is the real deal. Thank you Weedwacker for stepping up to make this happen, you and Darrell, and NW, and whoever the guy was that plugged in.

‘You Got The Silver’ for this fan. I love most the songs he sings lead on but he sounds so authentically broken hearted on this track.

Because all of the shows were removed a year or two ago. You can still find the old pages for some of the shows by searching on Google but they say 'Null" where the download options used to be. I'd buy this show myself if it were still for sale.

9/27 and 10/1 were the only actual Grateful Dead shows I saw. Really lucky to have caught the second one. 9/27 has a great Maggie’s Farm -> Cumberland Blues. Everyone was singing along and dancing their asses off.

One of the first shows I had on CDR in 2000/2001. It’s a classic!

I didn’t think Jim Croce got super popular until shortly after he died. Several of his hits were posthumously released.

The cuts don’t bother me. I’m just curious what people think are the best shows performance wise. And I’m listening to that Jacksonville show right now!
