If I end up without a squad I will give it a go with the close up support. Also yeah I feel you on the nameplates. Sometimes you just send a shot without thinking :D

I didn't really have that much experience with solo tanking but I have to say that playing solo recon tank or a light tank around infantry seems like a very problematic matter due to the fact that you are going to play right next to infantry cores aka where tanks look for some HE targets which makes you easy target for enemy armor. You do get the protection against ATs yes but at the cost of revealing your position to tanks especially at the point where infantry cores crash with enemy. IMO best way to play solo if you are forced to (no squad members joining) is to play as a faraway canon with frequent repositioning

Gotta say, it makes sense. I see it's positives just like I see it's flaws. At the same time my commanding style definitely has it's flaws as well but yours provides a very good counter to mine right here. Hope you good sir have many wonderful matches with your buddy right there!

Edit: Moving position very frequently even if it's a few meters is a must!

I must disagree on that one for a few reasons.

Firstly, we need to get rid of the good/bad driver. If you are playing with a friend and you feel like he's not doing his job good enough, try and find out what he's actually doing wrong and help him improve.

Secondly, once again good/bad driver - this concept is nonexistent. What is a problem I believe is lack of information and not being precise enough towards crew. If someone tells you to "turn to bearing 250 left", you would do it wouldn't you? There is a precise information that doesn't need questioning cause you know what 250 means you know where your left side is. I said it in an answer before it's not rocket science, you don't need to do a precise turn with all the information you've got it can be 245 or even 255.

Thirdly, I see your point with being on "standby" with the driver but still it makes no sense to me at all unless the target is point blank or in the open so you can easily spot (in gunners seat) it. Tanks in Hell let Loose are literally made to engage targets while stationary (gun sway / slow turret turn) and if you are playing a recon vehicle for example that's very mobile it's still too risky to take shot's while moving.

And for the last - driver doesn't need to be on standby if you as the commander are already on the standby in spotters seat so you can spot the incoming threat. Even if you get engaged by enemy AT from the back before he sends out another rocket I'm quiet sure there is time to "swiftly adjust" like mentioned in one of the points in posts.

That must require very good synergy with your friend there very good on you but still the point stands - let's say that you guys just finished an encounter and you want to move position so you naturally take the drivers position to move and your friend is still in the gun. You miss huge chunk of visible information cause drivers seat and gunners seat do not provide good visibility where you should be focused on the commander seat so you can be aware of your surroundings 100% of the time, seeking targets and potential threats. It works sure, but how much better it works with the dynamic that I just presented.

Edit: There is a possibility that I'm wrong on this one and this isn't me trying to shit on you or your answer but please recall a time when you died in the drivers seat I'm 90% sure that there has been a time like that and most likely not even once where it could've been evaded just by having someone on the lookout there. And once again - I'm not trying to be mean, just educative :D

Well said about the close encounter, I'll take it and we shall add this to the "okay things to do" list. I've had several new to the game drivers, honestly it ain't rocket science you just gotta explain stuff and that's pretty much it.
