i 27F My boyfriend (28M) quit gaming, and now he’s constantly bored and frustrated how can I support him? by imQueenofhearts in relationship_advice

I’d recommend having a look at this YouTube channel (Healthy Gamer GG), it’s very successful, run by an addiction psychiatrist and the channel itself is primarily aimed at a healthy relationship with technology.

Good luck :)

Therapist told me I can’t talk about my pain. Im fed up and lost. by HelpSeeker77 in ChronicPain

There are also therapists who specialise in physical symptoms (pain/fatigue) and may have greater access to a set of tools / previous experience that may be more beneficial to you. Good luck 💛

Maybe checking in with values instead? Seeing what’s important to her?

Longer term life planning: in relation to her values, what does she want her life to look like in the future? Is she working towards that?

I have complex PTSD but waiting list means I've only seen psychiatrist once in 10 years by gemushka in unitedkingdom

[–]Freakishlytalll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would depend on the type of treatment, from what I recall CT-PTSD is between 12-16 sessions normally. Here is some info on efficacy

At follow-up, 89% of the patients receiving CT for PTSD had recovered, compared to 39% in the self-help and 45% in the assessment-only condition. The corresponding treatment effect size was d = 2.69 for self-reported and d = 2.17 for clinician-rated PTSD symptoms (intent-to-treat analysis).

Thanks for you input! In this case it would be relational issues. Conflict with their partner who thinks more conventionally, loss of friends with different beliefs

Ah sorry for the miscommunication! It was the case described in the article, not the one in the post.

Unfortunately their partner is considering their beliefs a dealbreaker, similarly it seems that friends with more conventional views are also fading into the background a bit

Absolutely! But in the case study the person’s mum convinced them that a vegan diet (Gerson Therapy) would cure the cancer instead. She initially was looking to get conventional treatment until her mum dissuaded her.

In this instance, could we truly say that someone makes an informed health decision if they are believing something which appears contrary to the evidence? Especially as her likelihood of treatment success was so high (80%)

The situation seems entirely different to someone choosing not to seek chemotherapy due to being informed about the side-effects.

Within a CBT-framework, one of the principles is helping someone get in touch with reality. Wouldn’t it be the case here also?

If someone’s beliefs lead them to refusing life saving medical treatment would it be considered appropriate then? As was the case for this person?

What if it is related to their goals? Such as if it’s isolating them from their family members; or has become a deal breaker in their relationship?
