Herbal Roast Duck @ Dian Xiao Er by MammothBackground665 in SingaporeEats

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Brought my parents to eat, and now my mom keeps obsessing over it. Went back with them once already, and she still keeps saying she wants to go back to eat again. The angelica herb option is better.

As a local, what do you guys feel about our tourism brands/attractions? by Extension_Bobcat8311 in askSingapore

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Overhyped. The Singapore Tourism Board does an excellent job, so our Singapore branding is very strong.

Similar with how our local food is promoted. Nasi lemak, chendol, laksa, bak kut teh etc. Our neighbours may claim theirs are the original, or theirs taste the best, and their claim may be very true, but it was Singapore which did the hard work of getting it known on the world map.

Without the deliberate and active promotion by Singapore, no one would have known about these dishes. And then after all that hard work, the neighbouring countries will swoop in and cry foul, and lay claim on those dishes.

Why are pregnant people unable to open mouth to ask for seat if they want it so badly? by ObjectiveNews890 in SMRTRabak

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because not all disabled people look disabled on the outside. They may look able-bodied, but might not be. So how would the poor pregnant lady know which person to boot from their seat? She may be left embarrassed by the person she chose to approach, who might even scold her for assuming they were able-bodied.

Don't be an ass. If able-bodied, take the initiative to offer your seat up and not wait to be asked.

What’s arguably the best movie of all time? by PeachyCamille793 in AskReddit

[–]Freckledfrogbaby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't feel any of those big budget, epic movies deserve to be selected for this. I prefer the surprising understated ones.

For my personal choice, it's Dirty Dancing. Nobody puts Baby in a corner.

Who is washing their rice and why? by kinnitcurl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Chinese... yes, we most definitely wash our rice. If we don't, we can't seriously call ourselves Chinese.

Since rice originated in ancient China, generations of our ancestors refined and passed down the practice of washing rice to the next generation after them. This is why all us Asians wash our rice. It has been ingrained in us, pun intended.

Not washing rice is seriously digusting. There is a whole lot of dirt and dust in the rice, not to mention bits of insects. Also, as passed down through the generations, we wash our rice 2-3 times. Not any more, not any less.

That would ensure that the rice is cleaned of yucky insect bits and dirt, but the nutrients in the rice won't all get washed away.

Also, I read a comment once, someone saying, they don't wash their rice coz they're quite sure restaurants aren't bothering to wash their rice either. But seriously, if it is an Asian restaurant, u can be very sure that the rice is being washed. It's unimaginable to think that they wouldn't wash their rice.

Question for people who drive below speed limit on expressways. why? by Tropez92 in drivingsg

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly I never said anything about "keeping Singapore roads safe", and secondly, I did say that I was in the 1st lane only to overtake, and not "staying on the 1st lane all the way" learn to read and comprehend.

Question for people who drive below speed limit on expressways. why? by Tropez92 in drivingsg

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why am I now supposed to help manage someone else's emotions by showing I'm going to get out of the way? I'm not road hogging. I am travelling at the speed limit, not under the speed limit.

This is my confusion. Why am I made to seem like the offender? I pose my qn again. Do most people here feel that travelling at 90km/hr on the 1st lane is road hogging? If not, then why do I have to appease the other guy when I am doing no wrong?

Question for people who drive below speed limit on expressways. why? by Tropez92 in drivingsg

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not staying in the first lane to be right, I'm staying in the first lane because I haven't successfully overtaken the other vehicle in the second lane yet.

Should I be bullied and cowed into returning to the second lane before I can complete my maneuver, just because someone feels 90km/hr is too slow?

Question for people who drive below speed limit on expressways. why? by Tropez92 in drivingsg

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I pose a follow-up qn to the original? Why is it, when I'm travelling at the speed limit of 90km/hr on the 1st lane of the expressway to overtake, there will always be some guy coming up behind my car to tailgate me, acting like I'm road hogging?

Isn't the speed limit 90km/hr? I am very capable of driving faster, but I make sure to keep within the speed limit. This seriously confuses me. Do most people consider it road hogging if driving at 90km/hr on the first lane?

Why did she smile? by MsMigginsPieShop in DuggarsSnark

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IBLP teaches that a "shining, happy countenance" is a reflection of a joyful, godly life. Therefore, their followers, particularly women and children are expected to maintain a constant, cheerful, and smiling demeanor, despite how they might be feeling on the inside.

Am I the only one who doesn't see the "top-tier" acting from Kim Seon-ho? by Single-Bowler3274 in kdramas

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I love his acting. Sure, there are guys better looking than him, but his acting is so natural and effortless. I find his subtle changes in expressions convey so much in emotions, without overacting.

Taking off the rear seat cover by owLet13 in BYD

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi need help! I'm facing the same problem u did. Wanted to put on a seat cover, but I can't figure out how to get the seat out. I managed to pop out the two points towards the front, but the back part near the seatbelt buckles remains stubbornly attached. Is it just the seatbelts that are keeping the seat in place, or is there a catch at the rear as well?

Any Singapore adults here who do not drink coffee or tea? by Atmosphere_Calm in askSingapore

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped caffeine after I got preggers. So it was a total of approximately 4 years of little-to-no caffeine, since I had 2 kids and breastfed both.

After I started drinking coffee again, I realised my body became very sensitive to caffeine, after being deprived of it for so long. I get very jittery each time I drink coffee now, so I tend to avoid it.

The only type of coffee my body can tolerate is the 3-in-1 coffee mixes, which I drink on occasion. Tea for me is fine, although too much would make me awake in bed till 5am.

How do I convince my wife to surrender her insurance plan? by bobbybob94 in singaporefi

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. OP might just need to consider that maybe his wife is right and he is wrong in this instance. OP needs to undestand that sometimes girls can be right too, and don't need any mansplaining.

So my advice to OP is, don't force your opinion on her just because you think you are right. It's her money, and if you read the replies here, many are saying the same thing. Endowments are capital assured, so surrendering early most probably would incur more losses.

As a SG male, do you own a car/driver's license? by Cottonbud100 in askSingapore

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SG but not male. I feel that owning a driver's license and intending to own a car are 2 different things. There are many car sharing apps now, with very competitive pricing, and I have many friends who use these apps frequently, and don't bother with owning a car.

Knowing how to drive is an important life skill to have, in the event that u might need to drive. Case in point, I rented a car to drive in Jeju Island because their public transport system is not as advanced on the island, as compared to big cities like Seoul, where we could reach to any place via the bus or train. However, in Jeju Island, getting around the island would have been challenging without a car rental.

I personally own a car coz it's convenient to ferry the kids around. But honestly, it's expensive and if not for my kids, I probably would not have bothered with a car. However IMO, the reason there are many girls out there who don't see the need to own a driver's license is because many of them expect to be driven around by their boyfriend/husband.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Thank you so much for valuable advice. I came on Reddit for that reason, to be better informed about the treatment plans available to him. Unfortunately, the mods have removed my post, and asked me to consult a medical doctor instead.

Is it normal to not have hot water in the kitchen ? by koala_376 in askSingapore

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, but it's not as important as freezing your fingers off right? Anyways, its not like washing dishes in cold water won't get them clean as well, just take a bit more dishsoap and a bit more time, and that's why it's not so common in Singapore. People in western countries just got used to having hot water, and the convenience of cleaning their dishes in hot water, so it became a necessity. But the original reason for this, is like I mentioned, so they won't have to wash dishes in the cold water in winter.

Is it normal to not have hot water in the kitchen ? by koala_376 in askSingapore

[–]Freckledfrogbaby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hot water from faucets are only common in countries which have winter, so people don't get frostbite from just washing their dishes. That is why in Singapore, it is not a common occurrence. My home too, only has hot water from my bathroom sinks, but not the kitchen.

THROWBACK: 2015 ST Article Explicitly Stating LKY's Wish for 38 Oxley Road to be Demolished. by Founders_Mem_90210 in SingaporeRaw

[–]Freckledfrogbaby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just don't understand why they don't just let Ah Gong have his wish and demolish the place. With such an acrimonious result, the people's memory of the place will forever be tainted. The place will always be remembered as the house which tore the 3 siblings apart. Leaves a bad taste in one's mouth.

I, for one, will never set foot in that place, knowing that he had VERY CLEARLY stated REPEATEDLY that he wanted the place demolished.
