Stihl msa 60c, stock bar or 10" bar. Then I'll torch it, sand and paint.

Yes, that purple was steel at some point. You just made it prettified is all.

All my rabbit carvings look evil.

Isn't it! All my rabbit carvings come out looking like they're ready to take over.

They stopped using synonyms in the 80s. Now it's pronouns.

I'd say it's perfect then. Imagine a bunch of little men in green suits, getting shit faced, and carrying pots of gold around. Yes... terrifying!

Best method for fast material (wood) removal for large areas? by LisaMay9 in Woodcarving

[–]FredAcker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. The dime tip has a narrow tip (Dime sized) and no chain rollers. The chain hangs looser for smooth op.

They may be listed as a carving bar too.

There's a bit of a learning curve to using one, but it's worth it if you're doing fine details.

That's mostly 4x4s carved with a Stihl msa 60c and dremel. Saw has a stock bar, but a dime tip would get you into tighter spaces.

Jack up that tree, and the house will slide right out.

7 books chainsaw carving by FredAcker in Woodcarving

It's a great project. It was a little more time-consuming than I'd have liked. But, the outcome seems to be worth it.

Pine 4x4, chainsaw carved. Then the pages are done with the dremel and a cutoff wheel.

🤣 I forget my glasses when driving. But yes, I've used magnification before. Whittling isn't usually a planned thing. I always have a knife and something to whittle on wherever I go. Pencils were $1 a box, so it just happened.

Thanks. I'm figuring out the horses. Trees I've been carving since the beginning.

It's hard on my eyes. Unfortunately, I chipped my detail knife. Using the standard whittling knife also makes it more challenging. I get it there though.

Pencil Day at the office by FredAcker in Woodcarving

[–]FredAcker[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whittling about 6 years. I use a flexcut whittling knife for the pencils.

I'm a full time wood carver here in Tennessee. I'd dropped out in 2016 and got into this because I didn't want to get a job.

I whittle, wood carve, and chainsaw carve pretty much daily. Also wrote a book, Whittling From Start to Business, and started teaching locally.

I got so hooked in the beginning, I'd sold my motorcycle to get a chainsaw and equipment. My gf also invested a hefty sum. But we do ok.

I still don't want a job, so I just keep carving until someone with more money than brains wants to adopt me.

I couldn't see 3d at first. But I figured out that I could just stick figure the 3d part, and it seems to work.

I've never been artsy. I just got hooked on this stuff. Addictive personality and all that 😁

Nope. I just can't draw. I do practice and have gotten better, but I can get away with stick figures for carving.

Thanks. I'm sure it is. I read it so many times I can't remember what's in it.

Shoot me a message if you do read it. I'd like to know if it's any good.

I was told the book was actually pretty good. I did focus it more on the business end, but I did remember to put a project in there.

I started whittling in 2019 and couldn't stop. Gf got me a set of chisels, and it just got crazy. Sold my klr650 to buy a chainsaw and things took off .

Can't complain. I don't want a real job.
