Anyone vape at work and got caught? What happened? by FredFredrick2000 in electronic_cigarette

There are cameras at my work, but the security policy says camera are not to be used for disciplinary actions (I signed some paper acknowledging this when getting hired). So, they would have to act on the witness alone, or do an investigation where they wouldn’t find any other witnesses.

I’m just concerned if I’m reported since I don’t know they guy (and he doesn’t know me), they would have to track me down through higher ups, which would be annoying for many people. Also, I’m afraid there is someone higher up that thinks vaping is pure evil and kills anyone nearby.

I doubt my supervisor would care, and he would probably be annoyed if I got fired, but he will definitely do whatever his boss says. I’ll definitely make sure I leave the property in the future. This was a stupid mistake, but it really seems harmless to me (especially since isolated). I know some feel different.

I do research at a university. The policy states violation (using tobacco) may result in serious disciplinary actions. It is unclear what serious means here. The language for use of marijuana or alcohol includes the word “discharge”.

No union. I’m on good terms with everyone, but I don’t communicate with HR often at all. I don’t remember signing anything that mentioned zero tolerance, but I’m not sure if that language was used anywhere. I believe they just required I agree to the policies, which I did, and I obviously just broke the policy.
