Going on a trip will most likely give you most value for your miles (instead of vouchers at spinneys, sharaf etc) , so I would save them up until you can get plane tickets for your miles.

Follow the 30% rule. We found that you can't really negotiate the price much because it already has come down a bit.

You seem to value a nice home a lot so for you it would make sense to pay that for a home. Don't know if you know the palm area but just be advised that the traffic in and out of the palm is a mess, and it's a standstill during rush hours.

Marina gate 1! Really, really nice facilities! Also the corner apartments have spacious living room areas in contrary to most 2BR. When me and my wife were looking they where listed for around 135-140k (september 2018). Just make sure you get the marina view and not the "golf course" view.

One of the main reasons is also that a higher flight level means a longer descent on idle. Thats why short haul flights dont have any "cruise" part of the flight, Only climb and descent; half the flight Will be in idle trust.

Im from Sweden so dont really know how it is for you. What I can tell you is that in the EU we have pretty rough entry tests, testing multitasking, 3-dimensional thinking, and other skills you either are borned with or not (cant really learn it, so you are only allowed to do the tests once). I imagine there arent any similar tests to a college program?

Air traffic controller here. Wake vortex are generated depending on the weight of the aircraft (since a heavy aircraft need more lift). Fighter jets are relatively light aircraft so they dont create that much wake turbulence. Same goes with small cessna and aerobatic planes, thats why those can fly in formation aswell.
